"neon" stuff?

My friend wants me to get him something like this for his birthday; http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...p-7061/c-10101 , I don;t know why, but it sounds sorta umm, well, you get it. Basically he wants to light up the inside of his car to look "cool" in front of his school buddies. What size do I order? 10" seems like a lot of light , but they have 20" too so who knows?

Any experiances?

The obvious question would be.. what kinda car does he have?

MSD 08-01-2004 04:30 PM

The 20-incher will give a lot more illumination (additionally, water is wet,) and will illuminate the whole car if placed properly (don't ask me how to place it properly, I'd have to be in the car to tell you.) The 10's would need to be paired up to do much of anything. Also, don't put it where it's visible from the road if it isn't red.

Probably a Honda :)

Ford Taurus... Probably going to get him a blue one...

If the neon's are to be placed on the outside of the car spend the extra money on the Street Glow gold series kit. lifetime warranty that even covers a snapped in half light. One of my friends tried the thing with cheap 10" lights, he broke over half of them in a week.

Why not?

I just recalled that his dash is "green" when the lights are on, so I was thinking to get him a 20" green tube he can just wire in and set on the floor in the back.. That woud probably light it up pretty well?

A taurus? and he wants undercar neon? Theres 2 strikes against your friend. slap that foo silly. Dont waste your money.
THey will fall off the car or fail to work in about 4-6 months. give him a check for $20 and tell him to fix whatever is broken on his car first.
Maybe you need a new friend....

Red lights doesn't kill night vision, so it wouldn't be as much of a pain in the ass

Tester123 08-02-2004 05:49 PM

Not underbody stuff, stuff for "inside" the car. Maybe I'll just get him a gift certificate

pocon1 08-02-2004 05:51 PM

Check with the laws in your state. For instance, in maryland and DC it is illegal to have neon undercar. Some BS about distracting other drivers.

impulse03 08-02-2004 09:39 PM

he isnt talking underbody neon, he is talking about inside the car.

What exactly is the point of putting neon inside a car? Does it make it go faster? You did say your friend was driving a Taurus did you not? My next question is why in god's name would someone want to put neon lights inside a Ford Taurus?

It's confusing.

Get him two ten inch neons, and have him put one under each seat up front.

Look at the colors of the lights on the outside of the car. If you can see the light bar from where you're standing, there had better be a light of that color on the outside, otherwise it isn't legal.

Some people like to decorate cars, rather than stripping them down to bare bones and being purely about speed.
