You might like it but that is one damn ugly car

It's called the Mercedes F400-Carving.

Sorry didn't know the pics where that big.

07-22-2004 12:34 PM

its certainly different.. but i cant imagine driving this on the freeway. all the bugs in your mouth, eyes, nose.. etc. you right, what the hell were they thinking!

Scorps 07-22-2004 12:41 PM

LOL ya a window would have helped.:hmm:

CrazySaturn 07-22-2004 12:44 PM

Looks like they ripped off the Lotus 340R.

the_marq 07-22-2004 12:45 PM

I dunno, if no one pushed the envelope and designed something outrageous once in a while we'd all be driving around in identical boxes. While this car may not be a home run, it's not a total failure.

You got a good point there:thumbsup:

Some parts look alright but most of it needs some big work!

07-22-2004 12:53 PM

but you have to be from tron to drive this car :D

Scorps 07-22-2004 01:02 PM

Right front tire has a problem there.

the_marq 07-22-2004 01:12 PM

That last pic reminds me of Death Race 2000.

TM875 07-22-2004 01:59 PM

Dunno, I really like it. They just need to change the front end headlight layout, it would be one awesome track car. I think it has possibilities.

Actually I've seen this car before, I'm pretty sure.

The suspension is designed to "lean" into corners, providing extraordinarily good traction and balance.

bodypainter 07-22-2004 03:08 PM

Regardless of how it looks I'll bet it's fun to drive!

Halx 07-22-2004 03:26 PM

concept-wise, it's fun
functionality-wise, it's a disaster.

Asuka{eve} 07-22-2004 03:58 PM

Its really over the top.

todd 07-22-2004 05:39 PM

I like it, but definitly not as a street car.

Boo 07-22-2004 06:15 PM

But would it get you laid?

oane 07-22-2004 06:31 PM

It's a concept.

choskins 07-22-2004 06:57 PM

It looks like the boys at Chrysler are starting to convince Mercedes that bulding concept cars is fun.

I hope that is all that rubs off on Mercedes.

Halx 07-22-2004 07:06 PM

Also, about the wheels. I believe all new Meredes-Benz cars have front wheels that lean into the turns. The resulting turning radius is astounding.

but are the tires supposed to pull away from the rim like that?

ibis 07-22-2004 10:52 PM

Fugly

Jadedfox 07-22-2004 11:15 PM

Carving makes me think of skiing not cars

stingc 07-23-2004 12:19 AM

This car was created especially to test their new suspension. It actively changes camber on each wheel to optimize grip (like a motorcycle leaning into a turn). This allows it to skidpad 1.4 g if I remember right.

Oh yes I heard something about that...just first time I have seen it!

What about rack and peanut steering?

Ilow 07-23-2004 08:31 AM

shit, if no one else wants it, I'd take it. I bet it's fun as shit to drive and you'll still eat fewer bugs than on a bike. besides, it's a benz convertable, panties are being removed as we speak just because of that.

I asked my GF if she liked she doesn't like it. But maybe thats just her and me:p

ForwardtoDeath 07-23-2004 08:55 AM

that's one ugly looking car. Thankfully, its only a concept.

SpikeQX99 07-23-2004 09:04 AM

Hey, if I had the extra cash just laying around, I'd pick one up. Just for the "what was that" effect of it.

Could be cool, but about eating bugs....

Scorps 07-23-2004 09:06 AM

If you had the money to buy that thing I think you could have someone build a windshield for it!

Deuce66 07-23-2004 04:41 PM

I dunno, it may be ugly, but it looks better than any new benz out there =P I cant stand the new benz styling =/

I was at the dealership a couple weeks ago for service and spent quite a bit of time crawling (and drooling) over a new SL55AMG. At $130K I won't be getting one but I thought it looked terrific.

wrongfullyaccuzd 07-24-2004 06:20 AM

If it had a windshield, I'd see nothing wrong with it, really. That's actually kind of hot. Sure you can say it has "styling problems" but who is actually going to say that they wouldn't like to be driving around in that, even for a little while?
This is a rhetorical question. Save all of your "I love my STI" or "I love my 350z" or "I love my truck" comments. I know you love your cars. That's not the point.

Then you didnt even see the one you'll comotose over! The 604hp SL65. Twin-turbo V12! I'd even take the SL600, it's also a twinturbo v12, but not AMG built.

There is all sorts of new Mercedes crossing the shores over here. The B-class, R-Class, and the 2nd Gen M-class and the NEW G-Class. Most are going to introduced next fall in the Detroit Auto Show. While this car is kinda neat looking in concept, I personally can't wait for the new AMG Built M-class. They didn't say what engine, but it's an N/A V8 supposed to put out 476 HP and 0-60 in 5.7. In an SUV.

Esoteric 07-24-2004 02:26 PM

I think it looks pretty dope. Would be better with a windshield of course. I'd drive it.

Qazwsxedc 07-24-2004 07:30 PM

looks interesting.. a good interesting. The angle of the car in the first pic is the most flattering.

hrdwrjnkie 07-25-2004 09:15 AM

Def. needs a windwheild, but other than that, not too bad. The front headlights would look better if they were more attached to the body, though.

07-25-2004 06:13 PM

From a design perspective, its just, wrong. Look at the way the highlights blend on the car. Their is no focus to the angular lines that draw the body together, it just results in a lackluster confusion and lack of rigid forum.

etla 07-29-2004 01:37 PM

I think it looks pretty cool. Bring out a 2drht version and I'd be all over it. At least until I fell over from the price:D
