Strange requests by customers

I did a search and looks like this is a new topic.....

I have a small tyre shop, and a couple of days ago, I had a gent and his wife (both very well dressed) arrive in a late model Audi A6. He asks me if I have any retreads for it. Now I don't mind selling retreads, but there is some vehicles you just don't put them on, now do you.
When I tried to advise him of the incorrect choice he was making, he left...

Any one else had some strange requests, etc?

That is an oddball request. I can't imagine putting retreads on any car, really, much less something like that.

Once when I worked retail, I had a man ask me where the virgins were kept.

I told him, "I wish I knew" ;)

That is how you get enough money to buy an audi... be extremely cheap.

In all seriousness : Yes. He's cheap. Most wealthy people actually are.

Or he's an environmental freak, who thinks retreading is good for the environment.

We have a customer who emails us pictures of oddball parts, wanting us to find them for him. I suppose it's easier for him than trying to actually describe tham on the phone.

Better than "I need a hose for my radiator. ... No, I don't know the year ... no, I don't know the model, I think it's a Honda"

I'm not complaining. Just noting that it's an unusaul way to order.

Zook, you might have lost his business, but you made the right decision. I am glad you put his safety before money in your pocket.

I had a customer driving a $80,000 car come in to make arrangements for us to replace the tires on his wife's car and put brakes on if needed. He wanted the absolute cheapest tires and the cheapest brake pads because " she only needs it to take the kids to school and do her running around" When I commented that she didn't need to be safe for that he got quite put out. He spends more for 1 tire on his merc then he is willing to spend on all the maintenence on his wife's family hauler.

That's kinda wrong. I maintain my gf's car far better than my own. Yeah, mine is faster and cooler, but it's gonna be a lot easier for me to put decent rubber on it than end up out in the middle of nowhere changing her tire.

Some people just don't make sense.
