Boss Audio

You may remember my asking for your opinions about rockford fosgate. Well, in my search for audio stuff for my car I remembered hearing some Boss Speakers in a freinds car a while back. Checked em out.

High power speakers, cool looing grills, and a dirt cheap price.

This struck me as odd, despite some friends telling me Boss is really good stuff.

35 dollars shouldnt buy a good 10-12" sub, and since thats what boss costs, I'm inclined to continue my search.

But first, lets hear some opinions from some of th emore expirienced car audio gurus here, if you don't mind.

Thanks guys.

Any reasons in particular that you dislike said sub?

You mean aside from the fact that its a $35 sub? You get what you pay for. I don't like the looks of any of their products. They seem to be trying to go the radical styling route that so many are taking as of late. Looking at their "flagship" IQ series, the woofer grilles on the coaxes cover the majority of the woofer cone, potentially affecting their radiation. I point this out on the coaxes because most people don't spend extra for separates. Their subs use cheapo stamped baskets rather than higher quality and stronger cast baskets.

There Sub's look nice but I heard they sound like crap...Go with JL, Alpine, Pioneer or even Kenwood.

Ditto. I've had mine for about a year and I must say they rock!

I'm telling you, if you like JL audio, you will love Diamond Audio. A little bit more expensive, but worth every penny. JLs do sound amazing until you listen to a pair Diamonds.

Per your topic however, Brandon is right, you get what you pay for (to an extent). A $35 sub is going to sound just like it costs...cheap. If you want tight, responsive, solid bass you will need to pay for it.

I will agree JL rocks .. but I did have a Boss amp in my avitar, Boss makes some solid equipment, there speakers should treat you right

I know you get what you pay for, and I never ever would even consider buying said sub, but I was just curious!

If you were a police officer and someone made a "paper" vest and a "kevlar" vest, which would you choose?

Kevlar

For this example we'll take what I have in my car, an Alpine Type-R (this is just for example)

The material of the subs cone is Kevlar, able to withstand accidently punctures and what not as well as keep everything relatively tight.

Meanwhile, Boss seems to think that PAPER will do the trick.

I'd second the corner cutting motion.

brandon11983 07-19-2004 10:01 PM

Most audiophile companies use some form or another of paper cones because they are the most natural sounding. A well designed paper cone can hang with any of the other materials.

I always though paper would be weak up against some of the of compounds they use today!

So where does Infinity and their Kappa series fit in?

brandon11983 07-23-2004 10:20 PM

Infinity is power hungry junk. Clarion, Panasonic, JVC, and Kenwood are all boring. Rockford and PPI have sucked for a few years. Kapton, Blaupunkt, Fusion, MTX, Audiobahn, Orbis, Lightning, and Alumapro have never been anything special.
