I like it. But why do they have to spew all that marketing crap like "It's in a brand new category of its own! Now you can have a low-slung car-based vehicle that gives you the handling of a car with the utility, rugged looks, and cargo carrying capacity of an SUV! Never before has anything remotely like this ever been released, so we had to give the segment a new name: the Sport Activity Versatile Recreational Touring Autocross Offroad Vehicle. We are the world leader in SAVRTAOVs!"

JESUS CHRIST. IT'S A FUCKING STATION WAGON.

Volvo still makes a better station wagon.. a shame that it's twice as expensive.

If I was in the market for one I would definately get one. If I had a kid or two running around I would love to bring them to hockey practice or wherever in this car. My best friend's wife talked him into a Windstar and he never drives it...says it's the wife's car.

If it had anything but a HEMI, almost nobody would pay any attention to it. I'd look at it if I was in the market for a station wagon, but I'm not, so ...

Man, if that were out, and in the price range when my mom was shopping for her van, it would have gotten a serious look.

I think they are marketting it wrong though. Instead of showing it off to teh guys as an suv that can handle well, they need to show it off to the moms/parents. Most new parents, especially dads, dont want to get a minivan. Nobody thinks " Man, i hope i get to get a minivan when im older". They need to market it as an alternative to a van. It holds the people, stuff that a van will, but its quick, powerful, and NOT a minivan.

So in review, nice car, great idea, not so great marketting.

you drive a magnum or a volvo everyday. Be specific, 2 cars are being discussed.

Volvo does make the best wagon out there, and anything Dodge puts out will have reliability questions, as always.

I like the Magnum. Maybe not specifically the car as much as what it represents. With city streets being ever more congested by the likes of minivans and SUVs, it's high time people realize that a station wagon will adequately suit their needs while still being a cool thing around town. They'll get better gas mileage, better performance, better safety and better looks.

Seeing it off on its own, or part of the oncoming traffic, the magnum looks pretty sweet, plus it has power to back it up. But every time I try giving it hard honest look, the styling that at first caught my eye and whetted my appetite soon begins to grate on me. Too bulky, too overt, too inharmonious. So while it may not so much be for me, I really like what it is.

As for Volvo... well... nobody does "station wagon" like Volvo does. From its sloping nose to its broad shoulders to a (hopefully) roofrack-less top, no other wagon flows as well as the V70 while providing more than ample power, way comfortable seats, and copious storage space. The V70 is Hot. Wish I had one (even if some might find the interior boring .

I love wagons. The reasons why have already been brought up in here. They are still pretty functional, can haul more than a standard car (although admittedly less than a truck), handle better, ride better (relative to most trucks, that is), and get better fuel mileage. What's NOT to like? I think the Magnum is a great looking vehicle...I use it as my damn desktop!! One of the local dealers had one, I shot a pic, and it's my desktop now.

Now even Mazda has jumped into the game, waiting for Ford and Chevy to come out with new station wagons with 350's and 302's in them....HEHE

No, the Malibu Maxx is a hatchback. Hatchback=/station wagon.

And I do think sans Hemi it would get mention. It, besides the new Cadillacs and 300C are the new American icons. RWD, lots of space, competing with the europeans. I give definite props to the team at dodge that brought it to life.

When you think about it the Hemi is just another V8 in my books, I got a 350 in my van Big Deal a muscle car need a Big Block, maybe todays muscle cars can't use a 454, 427 or 396 mostly because of Emissions but they seem to get a lot of HP out of them small blocks! I'm not saying the 350, 302 and 360 are shit engines, they are not they can last a long time and I'm also not saying I wouldn't drive a new GTO(or any other dodge or ford with a SB V8). I'm just not a fan of this Hemi they seem to stick into everyone of there cars....and why do they name there engine...GM doesn't either does Ford. Chevy's old 350 was called the "350" the new one is "LT1" and hell I don't know what Ford calls there's.

Well thats just me letting off some steam!

I'm glad to see station wagons trying to make a comeback. It was the damn minivan that did them in, not the SUV.

When I was in high school, I got the hand-me-down car in the family. A '79 Ford LTD Country Squire station wagon. Light blue with woody sides and a light blue vinyl interior... and a 351W under the hood.

I have seen the Magnum at a dealer and I must say that for the price and what you get this thing is great. I'm thinking about trading in my crappy Legacy Outback for one (these 2.5L flat fours have alot of problems). Plus it's rear wheel drive! Looks like a good buy.

Very true, I like it more than front wheel drive in the snow though as I grew up with RWD.

I've never owned a FWD vehicle. Yeah RWD can be trickier in snow, but I think it's more predictable and easier to control once you're moving. You can still steer while accelerating with the wheels spinning, unlike a front-driver.

As for the Hemi thing, it's a name just like Triton, Powerstroke, Duramax, Vortec, Duratec, Windsor, Magnum, etc. Yes it's just a stupid marketing gimmick, but the bottom line is that it sells cars and that's the point.

I guess Chrysler could have named it like the Japanese, but "That thing gotta SRVQB56PV=NRT?" doesn't have quite the same advertising appeal.
