Concept Car: Ford Focus

Ok I though I saw one of these today, but most have been the new model

No States for it yet

Looks a little like the Acura TSX, in my opinion. I think the fog lights are pretty interesting, if those are, indeed, fog lights. But I think this is a better design than the Focus that we have in the States.

Halx 06-16-2004 05:30 PM

TSX? Huh?

Looks like a Civic/Altima Crossbreed.

choskins 06-16-2004 05:44 PM

Pretty awesome, if it maintained those looks over to production car.

jizzmasterp 06-16-2004 06:43 PM

Looks badass.

powerclown 06-16-2004 07:01 PM

I like it, reminds me of a rounder Chrysler 300C.

The exhaust needs to be redesigned so its not identical to the front running lights, as the tips will be spewing exhaust grunge all over the back bumper...

Rippley 06-16-2004 11:28 PM

I think it looks badass. Unfortunately, I'm also thinking that will never make it to production. The Focus is too low-cost to warrant "designer"-exhaust tips like those, for example. Even though I really like them. I'd like a look in the concept cabin, just to see if there's any innovation there. Also, interesting that the concept for the new Focus is a sedan, whereas the Focus we've all come to know and love, is mainly a hatchback...

Vaultboy 06-17-2004 12:18 AM

Looks like a small Mondeo to me. And i like it. The light clusters are especially good. The twin exhausts will probably not make it to production.

The Focus sedan has been growing in popularity over here, so I'm not surprised that Ford would pursue marketing the sedan more.

matteo101 06-17-2004 06:37 AM

It is a nice car, but then i see the Ford emblems and its just not the same anymore...I will never drive a domestic car.

Haha, so true...in the US car industry it quantity over quality and when they need something 'upscale' they buy out the companies that make quality cars (Ford owns Aston Martin, Jaguar, Volvo, Land Rover, etc, GM owns Saab) and put their cheap ass parts in them to save a buck.

twilightfoix 06-17-2004 09:06 AM

indeed an improvement over the original focus but, i still don't like it.

irseg 06-17-2004 10:13 AM

Why does every fucking new car in existence now look identical to a VW Passat from the side?

VW are ugly thats nice looking
;)

BooRadley 06-17-2004 12:16 PM

I like it... they need to get rid of the gay-ass pastel colors though. What the hell ever happened to british racing green as a color option?!

As for the jackasses saying they never will buy American cars... remember that all cars are made from parts not made in the assembly plant.

I worked for a company that made interior trim parts and wheel cover.. our major customers were Mercedes Benz, Ford, Toyota, and Chevrolet.... so the quality isn't always solely in the manufacturers hands...

todd 06-17-2004 01:45 PM

It's okay. I like it better than the older sedan. I like the hatchback a lot better than the sedan though.

I really like the old Focus. I wanted one for a while. The base model looks pretty plane, but the Saleen body kit looks AMAZING, in my opinion.
I ran accross this concept a while ago...

The thing I don't understand about the Focus series is why they never put in a V6. Even the SVT and Saleen are just a V4s. I'm sure they could have squeezed in a V6...Focus isn't THAT small. It would have costed more though.

Im not a small car buff, but i dont recall ever seeing a v4.

todd 06-17-2004 03:55 PM

All of them are 4 cylinder

Bigwahzoo 06-17-2004 04:19 PM

I think that theguyondacouch is saying it has an inline 4 not a V4

Qazwsxedc 06-17-2004 06:23 PM

the front looks good, esp the headlights.. the back, not so much. And the side profile looks very TSX like.

merkerguitars 06-18-2004 08:39 AM

The concept I like the most is Ford put a 5.0L cammer v8 into one focus just for show purposes...but that would be fun :)

was that MX3?(or was that ZX3?)

punx1325 06-18-2004 06:32 PM

The concept looks a hell of a lot better than the redesigned '05 model. WTF were they thinking?!?

Grondar 06-18-2004 06:40 PM

Those pics remind me of an Audi..

I think I like the concept pics above more than the current models though.

I agree. The sedan version looks like a little Mondeo. I have heard the concept seen here will be available in Europe first and will NOT be available in the States for many years to come. And they have recently unveiled a facelifted version for 2005 in the US to suit the tastes over there.

I think it looks a lot better than the new Golf, and new Astra!

yakimushi 06-21-2004 04:34 PM

I saw that and thought Audi, maybe A4?

Definitely an improvement over the current ones though.

You're kidding, right? That looks hideous. The Wing is just a monstrosity. Yikes!

Why not just watch the new Ford commericals...they are already trying to sell the 05'

TopRamen66 06-26-2004 11:58 AM

Looks like a Scion tC. I think it looks better this generation of Focii, the hatchbacks look like mini-minivans.

I agree. Looks very Honda-ish.

Jackebear 06-26-2004 05:59 PM

I like the concept car a lot and absolutely think the Saleen concept is very cool. I wish they would have brought the European Focus here. I saw the public version of the Ford Focus Rally car in Britain last year and it was awesome. I would've loved to get that here.

BigTruck1956 07-05-2004 08:17 PM

those exhausts are savage

Someone did put a V8 in one. They said it wasn't as hard as they thought it was going to be. Even being front drive they said there was enough of a "hump" down the center to help with drive shaft placement (possibly for an AWD version sometime in the future) It was supposedly pretty hairy to drive.
