Help/Advice w/new CR-V Purchase
Okey doeky, here's where we're at:
2004 CRV EX with 1440 in dealer installed accessories. "Your new quote is $23,261, plus tax, title and license" Is where I'm at from initial dealer offers of 23,900. Honda's website puts the CRV with our selected accessories at 24,831. So, were getting there. What I need help with is figuing the appropirate profit margin based on invoice prices. Any help from experianced car buyers, dealers, would be nice. I take the invoice of $20,830 (I've found same number on a couple of site, so I hope it's good.) Invoice $20,830 * .05 = (profit) $1041.50 + $20,830 = (cost before accessories) $21,871. Now, $21,871 isn't bad, so we tack on $1440 in toys = $23,311. If I think $23,311 is a good price for me to offer, and I'm already $23,261, aren't I getting a good price?? I don't know for sure. Little help? Actually, holdback is 3% of MSRP on Hondas. Does that mean I'm giving the dealer 8% profit? That's too damn much. |
The dealer shoudl only make around $400. You are offering too much.
|
That sounds about right. The dealer will make a whole lot more than that. Profit on a truck/SUV is high. Really high. You don't want to know what dealer profit on a Dodge Ram is, or at least, used to be. I'd say you're in the right ball park.

I bought my 2002 Chevy in September '02 and got a plan through the company I work for called the GM Supplier plan. My truck sticker price was 39,830 and when the GMS plan was added, it dropped the truck down to 32,400. I'm not sure how it works, but the guy told me it's basically 4% above manufacture cost, whatever that means. I'm sure DEI37 could ellaborate a little more.
So after that, I was amazed how much they mark cars up. |
Cost $20,830
Freight and Destination Charge $490 Equals $21,320 Options $1526 Cost $22,846 Plus 3 percent $624 Equals $23,470 with Freight and Destination Charge Our price Is $23,261 That's the best price I've gotten from any of the dealers I'm working with. Hmmmmmmm... |
Ummm, do you believe that dealers don't have a right to make money?
