How do you crash...
...a car that nobody can even buy yet?
http://www.wreckedexotics.com/newpho...0525_001.shtml I'm mindboggled! I must say however that many current model SLK owners (myself not necessarily included) think it would have improved the car it the crash had managed to rip the nose completely off! |

It may have been a prototype car from the factory that was destroyed after testing.
A friend of mine has a 1989 Corvette ZR1. That is right, 1989. It has an X serial number on the frame. Chevy and Lotus used them for testing then destroyed them in a junkyard in England. An entrepeneur found them and shipped them to the US, where the flattened cars went for huge money.

Don't you just know there was a major "oh shit!" moment between the time the first side mirror was crushed and the when the other mirror was smashed?
I must say, the SLK is a rigid sumbitch for its size. The roof is sprung but the driver certainly didn't need to depend on his roll bar for protection. |

i don't think that was the slk supercar that merc is putting out, and everyone has been talking about. I distinctly remember it having the exaust in a fish gill layout just aft of the front tires. This could just be a regular 04 model year. Still a beautiful car gone to waste.

It's an '05 SLK350, not generally available for sale yet. If it was one of the smaller engines (which are now available) it would have the Kompressor badge on the side. Some people who know much more about such things than me also assure me the disk rotors visible through the front wheel are unique to the SLK350.
You may be referring to the upcoming SLK55 which should be some hot shit indeed. |

OK, Here's what probably happened. Look at the front right rim. The tire blew, and the driver lost control and jammed on the brakes. The car subsequently plowed into a curb, snapping the rim and putting it into the condition you see here.
Due to the high speed, it rolled to the right and forward, with most of the impact of the roll being taken by the front end. This was most likely on road with gravel or sand on the side, judging by the abrasion of the front right quarter-panel. At this point, the right mirror was gone. As it came down on the left front quarter panel, it bounced (maybe a harder surface,) snapping the left mirror off. At this point, visualize the car on its left quarter panel, with the body at about a 30° angle to the ground. The bounce swung the tail end over and around the car, most likely pivoting counter-clokwise, where it slammed into a wall, damaging the back end, and popping the roof. After the test driver was checked and found to be in good health, he was put into critical conditon by the car's owner's fist. |
