Buzzing speaker problem

I'm having a problem with the radio in my 454 SS Chevy pickup. It's a 1990. I know that several of you younger folks are much more into sound systems than I am so I was wondering if you could give me some help.

It has the stock radio and, gasp, cassette player. It is a four speaker system and the left rear speaker buzzes and hums so bad that I don't use the radio. For me, traveling without tunes is like not breathing. Before I start tearing out the plastic trim to get to the speaker or start pulling bits and pieces out from under the dash I was wondering if any of you had any ideas.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you've got a blown speaker.

A blown speaker is a possibility, but I found a interesting problem recently.

Check the panel around the speaker. If it's come loose and is in contact with the speaker, the panel can vibrate which causes a nasty buzz. A little insulation (foam or something similar) can fix it up quickly.

Good luck!

That sounds like its the problem...if its the rear it should be easy to get to...pull the cover off then turn on the radio to see it was the the cover like G_Whiz said, if it still buzz's when pull the speaker right out....my moms van had a buzzing sound and it ended up to be the plastic peace on the back of the speaker where the wires plug into had broke and was laying on the backside of the speaker cone.....but if there is nothing broken then I guess your best bet would be get a nice powerful set of new ones(GET ALPINE)

Well, the sound seems to be electronic but I will start by checking the speaker. 14 years is a good while for it to be hanging in there.

Ya surprised it lasted that long...but most old factory speakers are paper and only made to last like 10 years, if that!

Crazy

Also check the speaker wires. Just helped a friend with a 91 C1500 and his front speaker wires were rubbing behind the dash and the insulation wore away so the speaker was shorting. Made a buzzing sound when the radio was on. Didn't help either that his dash was all loose and cracked from sun damage.

Ide say definetly blown speaker. Pull off the grill, and just take a look at it. I trust that it is paper, so you will easily be able to tell. Could also be a nasty rattle, or some sort of electrical problem.

You don't want to be a electrical problem......you will chase them all around your car, unless you rewire the whole thing
