CBR 600

I know they make 2 kinds of CBR 600s. There's a cheaper version and then there's a expensive version.

I'm looking into buying one but I'm not sure the difference between the two and I don't really trust salesmen, as they work on commission obviously they want me to buy the expensive bike.

Is the difference between the two worth paying the extra 2-3 thousand dollars? What exactly are the differences?

cr25ovet 05-13-2004 01:58 AM

the difference is 400 dollar. you can buy the cbr600rr or the cbr600f4i. i like the rr better but can't tell you anything about the performance difference. the rr is very sharp. (i want one)

Menoman 05-13-2004 03:21 AM

I thought that the 600rr had 2 different models you could buy. One is supposedly manufactured better than the other or something like that..

The one you are saying is difference is fuel injection isnt it?

cartmen34 05-13-2004 11:42 AM

Both are fuel injected.

the 600rr is more modern, applies more of what Honda has learned from their MotoGP race bike. It's more of a "racer-ready" bike in terms of chassis performance and handling. It puts out a bit more horsies as well. Completely redsigned from the ground up based on the MotoGP bike. Overall it's simply a performance 600.

I'd put the f4i also as a sportbike, but it's not quite as racey. It's got a more comfortable seating/riding position, more room for storage, and stuff like that. It's kind of the older, wiser, gentler cousin of the 600rr.

I'd get the 600rr, but I'm a racer/performance bike enthusiast, so my needs may be different from yours. Get the f4i if you want a rock solid bike that is easy on the butt and legs on a long street ride.

Wow rock an roll ! :)

Thanks for that info !

I've actually decided on the YZF600, I see the specs are all comparable and I just find the YZF to be more comfortable than the CBR, and I like the black/red better on the YZF

If anyone cares! :)

also a good choice. It's kind of the same thing with yamaha's bike lineup as it is with honda's. the yzf600 is the older, gentler cousin of the yamaha r6.

yzf600 = CBR600f4i
yzf600r6 = CBR600rr

I guess I should ask....did you get the yzf600...or the r6? they are two different bikes, just like the f4i and the rr.

Menoman 05-15-2004 03:09 PM

I gettin the R6.

Today actually!

and I just got a new digital cam so I'll post pics for you guys :)

cr25ovet 05-16-2004 01:50 PM

and did you get the bike?
cartmen what do you ride?

BrassSteve 05-16-2004 02:50 PM

i've got a 99 F4, nice bike

Rabelais 05-16-2004 09:20 PM

First bike?

The Honda CBR and Yamaha R6 are both terrific bikes, but if this is your first bike you might want to take a Rider's Safety Course...

Those 600cc sportbikes might not fit in with the kind of riding you actually intend to do. If they are tho... I know you'll be happy with the R6. Keep the shiny side up. :)

Menoman 05-17-2004 04:22 PM

Yeah I got it :)

This isnt the first bike that I've rode. My starter bike was a Honda 450 Rebel.

I'll try getting the picture up today

Menoman 05-17-2004 04:23 PM

USED to ride an '01 GSX-R 600R.

Serious riding. Not just cruising around on the street. I did mostly track days and mountain roads at double the speed limit.
*hair on neck stands at attention...ah the memories*

BUT... since my move to crappy road central, I've had no fun on my bike, so I've just recently sold it. Will get another one once I move out of hell.

The CBR is the most intuitive bike I have ever ridden. The balance was perfect and the throttle was smooth as silk and increadibly predictable. With the '02 gsx-r600r i found it wanted to stand up in hard corners and I found myself pushing the bike down with my inside hand. This never happened with the CBR. The Suzuki had more grunt but wasn't as nice to drive imho.
