Little more respect...

Well, I have a little more respect for V8 motor heads now. I got a ride last night in my friend derricks fathers 64 Nova, with a bored out 355, cranking 425 horse at the engine.

He lit em up but good, and from the passenger seat, it looked like he had all he could do to keep the ass end behind us. That much power in a car like that is simply amazing... and more then enough fun. Anyone who can blow around corners balancing on that hairpin between the ditch, and keeping those backwheels wheels spinning enough to push em through the turn has my utmost respect.

Not to mention the way that V8 rumbles your chest.

EDIT: FIrst ride Ive ever really had in a Classic Chevy... I think they changed the front end out on that car too, cuz I seem to remember that Nova Front ends sucked.

I don't think there is quite anything like that feeling. And when you pull up to a stoplight and your car is just rumbling like all hell.
Oi.

Loser

You think its fun with the itty bitty sub-500 horse smallblocks, you need to take a ride in a big cube SBC or a race ready BBC. Or if you want to REALLY feel that v8 rumble, go to a drag strip that has a morning noise ordinance, so everyone starts their cars at the same time. Its orgasmic...

You are right about that feeling! WOW! I built my first big block car about a month ago. I drove it on open headers for awhile. It was incredible to listen to. They sure do sound good.

congrats on riding in a real car, lol, you cant beat good old classic muscle, the roar of the engine and dual exhaust on one of those is much sweeter than a swarm of bee's on a 4banger...

My Mom's first car was a 71 Nova... I remember her doing doughnuts in the parking lot in the winter and leaving big patches of rubber in the summer... that car kicked ass...

We didn't have another cool car until she tade her Hyundai Pony for the 280zx we owned in the mid-80s... that was fun to drive.

Know you know why I have a 454 SS pickup. If I'm not careful it will just sit and smoke the tires. When it hooks up it's a blast. It does, however eat some gas when this happens.

I grew up and rode with friends that had an original Hemi Cuda with the 440 six pack, a Chevelle SS 396 stroked, cammed, and carbed, Several Novas that would smoke tires, A Superbird, A Mustang Fastback, A Pontiac Judge, a Ford Cougar that was the first car I traveled 150 MPH in, and several others. I can also remember paying as little as 13 cents for a gallon of gas. I feel for you guys, you've been ripped.

It's why we refer to it as "The Good Old Days".

I've seen some Ricers that could really move but that buzzing sound just doesn't affect you the same way.

The funniest thing is you get all these people that put fart cannons on their 4 cylinder and think they are the coolest sounding thing in the world....sorry but it's the most irritating sound. Nothing beats the sound of a cammed up american pushrod, carburated V8.

"an original Hemi Cuda with the 440 six pack"

Maybe it was a typo, but their was no such thing (that i know of). The Hemi was a 426, so it was either a Hemi, or a 440 Six Pack.

I probably got it wrong, never been a Dodge guy. I just know it was purple and black and went like a scalded cat. I did think that you could get the six pack on either engine but I wouldn't argue with you.

There were so many options for all the hot cars back then that it was hard to keep straight.

Cougars weren't Fords either, but Mercurys.
