WOW!!! 10x
found this vid just a little bit ago, its rather large, but pretty fucking crazy. and this shit is real by the way.
LINKY |
Remarkable! Those things are incredibly difficult to operate. This guy is a veritable genius and obvious master. Great link!
|
watching it now, by far some awesome control
|
Totally and utterly nuts.
When he had it hovering like an inch off the ground upside down... quite impressive. |
that whole video had me in awe. i just sat there thinking "how the........what the......holy......dddaaaammmmnnnnn." i had no idea those things could do anything like they did. flying vertical, upside-down....you name it, it did it, and it did it flawlessly.
|
That's amazing!
It also looks impossible! Anyone with a gift for physics care to explain how rotors that counter gravity to get it off the ground do not push it into the ground when its flying upside down? (it'd be neat to see an Apache do that...) |

Mabye they reverse the spin of the rotor?

Wouldn't that be more obvious then? |
I think the pitch of the rotor blades can be changed. When it was hovering upside down, you could see the exhaust being pulled toward the blades rather than being blown away. Most of the time during transitions, you could see a slight hesitation, and I think that was when the pitch of the blade changed.
|
Thats pretty impressive....i bet that guy has practiced that for year...
|
it's impressive.. the only thing that made me doubt the authenticity is the near perfect trailing of the camera. I find myself believing it though, seeing as the tracking could be done with some video editing, no problem.

Thanks for the tip! |

you basically hit it on the money. i do not know about these rc helicopters, but on a real helicopter the blades change the angle of attack or pitch. an example: when a helicopter is on the ground and is preparing to take off, the rotors are actually spinning at the same speed as if it was flying. to lift off the ground the pilot pulls back on the collective, (which controls the pitch of the blades). so when you watch a movie and a helicopter makes a louder noise, as if the blades were speeding up, when it is taking off. the noise you here is fake. the rotors are actually spinning at the same speed. as for the rc copter being able to do all those maneuvers, the only reason i can give is that it is alot smaller therefore it can handle more g forces. cool vid though. |
I don't know shit about RC 'copters, but I've always wanted one, and that was some very impressive flying.
|
That was pretty crazy, how is that possible.
|
ok, I read all your comments and the damn link is dead.
|
|
Thats fucking absurd. I want one just to hover outside of peoples' windows.
|
looks like they play it backwards.
|
neat.
|
Both links don't seem to work. Here's a new one.

I didn't know that that kind of stuff was possible. Cool.
|
That was cool as fuck.
Now I wanna see it done with a real helicopter. |
that reminds me, how much do one of those things cost
|
Damned impressive.
Does anyone know how the fuel systems in these work? I'd think if it were a typical tube into the bottom of a fuel tank, the coptor would have fuel starvation when it was in anything other than a normal attitude. It was anything but normal throughout the entire video. |
very fuckin cool
note to self: dont EVER play against that guy in any console video-games. |
Bah, I'm not authorized..

All 3 links above are now dead. I think I've seen this one, but would like to check it anyway.
This is one reason I'm hesitant about posting links from other places, they go dead too often, probably bandwidth issues. There are a lot of people who hang out here. I don't have a huge amount of webspace, but my bandwidth is unlimited which is a good thing. When I want to share something really good, I will more than likely just host it myself. |
Well, I finally found a link that works, glad I did, had not seen it before. Fucking Awesome!
http://dsc.tudelft.nl/~spaans/alan_v...ydemo_2004.wmv And a story about the young pilot... http://www.littlerotors.com/articles...0802/index.asp |
nope - none werky...
|
Thats really cool, but they've got to be playing the tape backwards. I can't seem to understand how its upside down and then it GAINS altitude. Seems it would be the other way around. Also, it seems to have unnatural movements.
I dunno really, just a guess |
it worked for me. Holy CRAP. how the hell can he do that? the main rotor blades much change pitch incredibly fast to make that possible.
