I used to keep Barry Manilow in my CD changer just to piss off the BOOM guys. My 500watt system was peaked out and louder than most minitrucks with lots of subs.

I didn't want to listen to your cRAP music, so don't force me to listen to it, and I won't force you to listen to Barry Manilow.

You really think he's a nutcase? A lot of what is in that site is valid, and makes perfect sense. Why should I be subjected to the thumps and booms of your "music"? If that's your taste...then fine, far be it from me to criticize it. But when my car is being shaken, and I can feel the vibrations from it...then I've got a real big problem with it. What gives you the right to inflict me, within the enclosed confines of my own car, or my own home, for that matter, with this sonic bombardment?

Barry Manilow, huh? Damn...I kinda like Barry. Scottish Bagpipes are my prefered weapon of choice. Little on this earth more anoying, and it gets attention...fast.

you know there's this guy who plays the bagpipes in the Times Square area... you can hear him for LONG DISTANCES...

in case you liked Barry, I also had The Disneylan Main Street Electrical Parade. I usually had at least 2 discs just for payback.

now if they can apply this same thing to HEADPHONES because in subways and elevators, damn... some people are deaf.

Since I put in my CD player, more than a few jerks have been exposed to the wonderful sound of Anal Cunt. Nothing says "STFU" like what sounds like an angry, high-pitched duck with laryngitis shouting "Pottery's Gay" over and over again.

Well...that was...pleasant. OK, assuming that the owner of the Lower the Boom website actually did write those e-mails, which I highly question, then...yes...I have to concede that he is indeed an ass. Had he written those remarks on this forum, he'd have had "loser" under his name in .3 seconds. That doesn't diminish the value, nor the validity, of the message in his website.

I could not possibly care less what music people listen to. I'm rather eclectic in my own music tastes, and therefore appreciate some rather unconventional genres. Hell, I openly admitted that I like Barry Manilow, for Pete's sake. But, my point is, it's not the music, but rather the heavy bass, and the vibrations that these so called boom cars eminate. I find it not only annoying, but physicaly painful as well. I've also seen $3000.00 worth of equipment in cars not worth much more than $500.00. What's the point of that? The point is that it's all about being annoying. It's done with the open intent of being offensive. It's all about putting yourself out there as being an outlaw on the edge...an anti-establishment rebel. That's not about the music.

And on a final thought...how cool can you actually think you look when the bumpers, and the trimwork, on your car are falling off, because it's being vibrated loose? How can heavy bass sound cool when it's acompanied by the rattle of loose metal? All I can do is shake my head.

What bothers me about the "boomcars," is that they are just that. A lot of cheap crap stuffed into back seat or trunk, with no taste or creativity involved. They think its impressive, when all it is, is muddled, out of phase, boomy garbage coming out of a woofer thats far surpassed its excursion limit.

I will say that I think this guy has some valid points. It seems that the owners of 95% of the "boomcar" installs we did at the shop fit the mentality that he described, whereas the other 5% who spent the money and time to have a good sounding, tasteful setup were the complete opposite.

I'm rather aware of where I play my music, if i'm going down the highway, you're damn right it'll be loud, if i'm going down a residential street, it'll be lowered.

As for cops ripping out my shit and destroying it

The noise level is 'illegal', not the equipment, i'd see them in court.

I put Illegal in quotes because its community to community and not very heavily enforced.

the equipment is EVIDENCE, which if the police office wanted to piss off the obnoxious fucktard who was being a smartass. I recall my officer friend's citing someone for littering because the cigarette he flicked out the window hit my friend in the helmet. The guy was such a dick about it that my friend took the cigarettes for evidence. Same thing with people who didn't learn how to keep their stereos down during parties, 3rd visit, stereo gone, taken for EVIDENCE.

I knew a kid who dumped so much money into his stereo that he couldn't turn the volume up past 8%. 6 speakers plus 2 subs, 800 watts per channel, turn it up past 30% and you're into life-threatening sound pressure levels.

if A cop ever touched my shit I would want to bust his head open. But in my hoe town I go down residential streets with it as loud as it would be anywhere else...people do it to me so I do it back

and if a cop want to be an ass and pull me over all they do it tell you to turn it down or give you a small ticket for disturbing the peace, like 50 dollars!

during the Guiliani days in NYC they would impound your car for quality of life grievances. you'd lose out even if you won the court case because the impound fees weren't cheap.

I have to go along with the crowd here that agree's it is a violation of my right's for you to impose your loud music on my ears in a public place. If you want to destroy your hearing, get a pair of very professsional headphones.
The city i live in will take your equipment from your car as evidence after 3 complaints. So far, everyone who fought this in court has lost and then had to pay more in court/attorney fees.

I agree. If you like your tunes loud, Dynamat is your friend.

I'm with the "The guy's a nutjob" crowd. There's enough religious undertone in those pages that it jumped up and slapped me within a second. :P

On the other hand, I'd love to see him show up one night and tell all the dB racers to "Turn down the boom" and get the living shit kicked out of him.

What is the cost of soundproofing your car, as opposed to the cost of the equipment required to make all that racket in the first place?

There is no evidence in cutting the cabling in your car and then leaving.
