Bridgestone Issues Tire Recall

"Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. said on Thursday it will recall voluntarily 297,000 Firestone Steeltex radial tires made for Ford Excursion sport utility vehicles, following three fatal accidents.

The Nashville, Tennessee-based unit of Japan's Bridgestone Corp (news - web sites). (5108.T), said the tires were made from March 1999 to December 2002 in Quebec for Ford Excursions from the model years 2000 through 2002 and some in early 2003.

The tires were involved in two fatal crashes in 2002 and a third in 2003, a Firestone spokesman said. The company became aware of the crashes in 2003, he said. "

Bridgestone recalled 10 000 sets of 4x4 tires here in 1999 too, after it their tyre was proved to be the cause of a fatal accident. think the tyre was graded to 200kph (i think), but the tread came off a nissan patrol doing 150kph, or something like that.

Lesson: Stick to sportscars. And to the Goodyear Eagle F1.

If I recall correctly Bridgestone and Firestone are the same company more or less. IE what a shock they both are having problems.
