Which car has the best stock Dash?
Basically, im in the market for a compact car.
I currently own a 92 civic, Its a good car, but I just dont like how it feels. I want something with a more driver oriented dash. cockpit style or something, dunno how long this img will be good for since im linking it from ebay but... something like that really appeals to me. although that belongs to a really expensive car. Im looking for something a bit more budgeted. within the 8 or 9 k range. any suggestions? |

heres a good looking dash/console ... though it will be a little out of your price range i bet... 04 M3 looks nice and clean, simple, and driver oriented.
Dunno where you live, but you might be able to pick up a 93 or so MR2 turbo for that price, definately a N/A in great shape for that. They are dead sexy on the outside, and i dont have any pics, but they looks pretty badass inside too.

I'm pretty sure that is a supra, noting the big Toyota emblem on the steering wheel. Other than that, i think a 1st gen(90-94) DSM(eclipse talon laser) has the best cockpit of any car. It's really built up around you, and has a great feel to it. Check it out.

My mother told me that the Corvette always had the best dash because it felt like it was built around the driver. After sitting in a old 70's Stingray and then a late 80's Callaway edtion, I agree. Although, Corvettes do not come close to 8 or 9 grand. I would say that my friend's 91 Eclipse has the best dash. It feels almost like you sit down into it.

You just have to test them out and see what you like. I don't really understand what you mean by "driver oriented". My requirements for a dash is it's high-contrast, readable in the sun, and has a tach. If by driver oriented you mean wrap-around like the supra you showed, there are a few cars that do that, mostly RWD, because they have the console that goes all the way through the center of the car. I know the Ford Thunderbird has a dash like that.

The Nissan 350Z has a sweet dash, with an instrument cluster that raises and lowers with the steering wheel, and three gauges (dont remember what they are) facing the driver mounted in the center of the dash, I think it looks sweet.....heres a pic:

I feel chlaostrophobic(sp?) in an MR2 (you may or may not, but they are tiny), and the 350Z is waaaay over 9k.
The Mitsu 3000gt and the Dodge Stealth have very cockpit-like interiors, as do many of the DSM cars. 87-91 Supra turbo is pretty cock-pit-like as well. 90-95 or so 300ZX TT would have a great cockpit, lots of power, and good handling, all stock, and for 9k you could get a decent one. |

Anyone here ever sat in a BMW 8 series? I absolutely loved the dash in that car. Everything was angled and slanted so that the driver felt like they were in the cockpit of a jet aircraft. That was my dream car when I was a kid. I'd still have to think long and hard about it if an 850CSi came my way.

Oh wait, but I found these..... Black, complately stock and unmolested.... Red, a bit higher mileage, but says price is negotiable.... This red one appears to be well loved and cared for.... Again, red, looks well loved, and this ones female driven..... Purple, if thats your thing, looks good.... Silver automatic, if you dont like driving stick.... Black one that sounds like its already slightly modded, if thats your flavor.... A decent sounding silver Z claiming over 400 HP.... A white one claiming its mechanically perfect.... Shall I go on? Most of these are all right around 100k miles, which for a 10+ year old car, is pretty damn good mileage.... They are out there, its just like with any other specialty car....you have to LOOK! |

Perhaps you don't know much about a 300z, but that many miles on one of those, is going to kill the engine. With that car, it's had the total piss run out of it. Not to mention that insurance will bend you over, and start pluggin away.
All those had 100,000 +, when i buy a sports car w/ a Twin Turbocharged v6, i want less than 100,000 miles of stress on an engine that is already known to be problematic and not that reliable in the upper mileage. |

Stare at the Sun, perhaps you dont know that much about buying used cars... Turbocharged or not, 10k miles a year is great mileage and is actually one sign that the car has most likely not been driven into the ground. If 10k miles a year is too much stress on Nissan 3.0L twin-turbo V6, then why would you want one anyway??? |

Reality check, you have a 300zx for over 100k miles, the car has been driven into the ground. People buy sports cars for one reason, to go fast. And that kind of abuse over that long will take its toll on the car.
The only way i would buy any of those cars is if the miles were very well documented, and was in great shape. And, I know enough about buying used cars, I know enough to know that if you buy a 300z for less than 15,000 dollars, its a piece of shit. |

Whats your problem? you don't know the conidtion of every car in that add list. I agree it can be warry especially dealing with turbos and possible damage to internals and the turbo chargers themselves but if he takes the time to check out each car and have a pre-purchase inspection done to check compression, valves and turbos balance and oil use there isn't much to worry about. Just because your a prick, dosn't mean that every supraTT under 15K is a peice of shit.

Hah, you'd be lucky to find a N/A Supra under 15k in even remotely decent shape. Let alone a TT. And we were talking about 300zx's not supras.
Fact of the matter is, is that you are going to have problems if you buy a sports car like that with that many miles. And apparently, you haven't had much experiance w/ stuff like this, i'm not a "prick", and attacking me does nothing to help your cause. But, simply put, you are going to have to pay a lot more than 9k for a decent condition 300zx TT. People don't buy them to cruise to the grocery store. 100,000 miles of hard driving, and abuse leads to problems. Remember, people sell cars for a reason. |

oops i kinda failed to notice the old 9k range thing, but they are definitely right about the 300ZX TT, they are very unreliable after 100K, hence is one of the reasons you don't see many of them (TT or not) with high mileage.....
