Concept Car : Jaguar XK-RS

Now this car is just badass!:D

The most powerful road-going Jaguar convertible ever – the 550 horsepower XK-RS concept car – was unleashed at the 2004 Chicago Auto Show today. Developed by Michigan-based Rocketsports Racing in cooperation with Jaguar North America, the XK-RS concept demonstrates how Jaguar’s luxury GT road car can be transformed into a thundering 200-mph supercar.

Engineers at Rocketsports’ Lansing, Michigan workshop took the already-potent Jaguar AJ-V8 Trans-Am race engine and increased its displacement by stroking it out from 4.5 liters to 5.0 liters. To ensure drivability, the engineers reinstalled an Eaton supercharger to deliver an estimated 550 bhp and 500 lb. ft. of torque, giving the car the power to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in under four seconds, and take it to a top speed of 200 mph.

To make the car more involving for the sports car enthusiast, the standard six-speed ZF automatic transmission was replaced with a five-speed manual transaxle. Re-positioning the driveline weight to the rear of the car also results in a perfect 50:50 weight balance for improved handling. Rocketsports also used the team’s considerable expertise in high-speed aerodynamics with its Jaguar XKR Trans-Am race cars, modifying the production XKR’s body to ensure ground-hugging stability at very high speeds.

Inside, the XK-RS features body-hugging Johnson Controls 'Leap' seats clad in black leather with medium grey inserts.

That is a very nice Jaguar, however I could do without the silver grill. Now how much is this bad boy going to cost?

onetime2 02-10-2004 10:53 AM

The performance specs are impressive. The styling I don't like much. The front end is too low to the ground for my taste and, like username, I don't like the grill. It kind of looks like a stretched out Miata (tail and headlights seem similar). I don't really care for the fin(s) on the back next to the exhaust either. Oh well, not like I'll be buying one anyway.

Deuce66 02-10-2004 11:07 AM

OMG, that grill is TERRIBLE!! As for the rest of the car..well..it sucks, too. Whoever is responsible for the sacrilege of ruining Jag's these past 10 years or so should be punished...I hate the new styling =/ I like the old Jaguar, they had class, style, they were unique...all the new XK's look like overgrown Chrysler Sebrings.

Seriously, the first time I saw one of the new styled XK's, I thought it was a Sebring..I think I almost cried =(

shakran 02-10-2004 12:09 PM

How long before those shark teeth that were so popular on 1st gen miatas start showing up on the jags? ;)

get rid of the grill, and lose the tail lights and the riceboy crap and that'd be one HELL of a sweet lookin' Jag.

the fins are a diffuser. you really need them if you have a fast car that you plan to take to the track. they are very helpfull.

the specs on that car are extremely impressive. be nice to see it in action...

Destrox 02-10-2004 02:34 PM

That care there could easily cause me to have a joygasm if given to me to even test drive let alone have.

Jeff 02-10-2004 07:57 PM

I think it's a beautiful machine.

silent_jay 02-10-2004 08:15 PM

gorgeous car absolutely gorgeous LONG LIVE JAGUAR

what's wrong with the grill I think it looks sweet

powerclown 02-10-2004 08:47 PM

Very, Very tight.

Love the grill, wheels, black on black...

Peryn 02-10-2004 11:26 PM

Personally, i dont find too many saving graces for that car. Its not cheap to buy or own, its not all that powerful (as far as high end sports cars go), not all that fast, not very light, and i dont think the styling is anything special.

I mean, sure, its a step above a normal jag. Its supposedly a luxory car. But for what it does, how it looks, and how much it will cost to do it, its nice, but nothing very impressive to me at least. And I wont even start in on what i think of that grill...

Link didn't work for me. Regardless, I think they look like crap. There are plenty of other fast cars who route airflow under the car without them.

3.9 sec 0-60 isn't impressive? I guess I'm easy then. :D

500HP and 500 Lb FT, not that powerful 0-60 in 3.9 not that fast, 3399.5Lbs. and it's not that light' the styling is distinctivley Jaguar if you can't tell it's a Jag then you must have been living under a rock. I'm surprised people haven't been complaining about the Jaguar symbol on the side of the car.

Let's get off the grill it splits up the black theme quite nicely.

Im not saying its not fast, but for a pretty heavily modified car, and the cost of the base model, its really nothing great. The base car itself will set you back a good $90k. For doing some serious work to a 90k car, your not getting a whole lot more. You be better off starting with ..say, the Porsche 911 AWD Turbo Cabby. At 125k it will most likely still be cheaper than making the Jag conversion, with better numbers in a lot of areas.

Or another example. Hennessey and Lingenfelter (sp?). Particularly the vette...for a cheaper car to begin with, and a cheaper (most likely) upgrade, you get for more improvement and comprable numbers.

My point isn't that its slow, cause its not. Im just saying for the price of the car, the price of the work, the final product is a little less than id expect.

DaGus 02-11-2004 12:27 PM

ohh my god what have Jaguar done????

it look like an Fast & Furious toyota or something ieevvv :(

Whats wrong with the paint job?

I like that jag on the side!

silent_jay 02-12-2004 02:51 PM

i never said i didn't dig the paint, but people are splitting hairs over some chrome in the grill and i figured they would have been all over the paint.

bad30th 02-12-2004 03:23 PM

It looks exactly like every other Jag convertable out there, but with an ugly front grill, and ricer-style graphics, front lip and rear diffuser.

silent_jay 02-12-2004 03:44 PM

how are the graphics "ricer" when it's the same way on most of their race cars? and what constitutes a "ricer" graphic?

username 02-12-2004 04:19 PM

My big problem with the grill is that it draws away from the rest of the car. Granted, if I could afford one, I could afford to get a black colored grill as well.

The late 60's and early 70's Jaguars were the coolest though, especially the E-types.

runawayfetus 02-12-2004 04:45 PM

that car is absolutely sick

The ricers stole from the race cars.

bad30th 02-13-2004 09:55 AM

its just a rebadged XK8

....with a different motor....and trans.....and interior....and everything.....

hmmm....sounds like this other car I know of

silent_jay 02-13-2004 03:12 PM

unfortunately that other car copied a piece of crap and when you copy crap you end up with the same.

because the "ricers" stole the graphics from the race cars that means graphics are now "ricer"? can you explain this to me? because when I see a Subaru with Subaru Blue paint and 555 up the sides driving down the road the last thing I think is this guy's a "ricer".

bad30th 02-13-2004 04:18 PM

dude I'm just kidding around.....relax a little :D

silent_jay 02-13-2004 05:14 PM

i'm totally relaxed just saying that all things that ricers do are not always ricing up a car

bundy 02-13-2004 07:18 PM

thanks for info Pain Train.

personally i don't like this new Jag. its lost its class.
i hope this isn't the total new direction for jaguar.

deepinjello 02-14-2004 08:28 AM

I saw this car at the Chicago Auto Show and it really looks better in person. The grill looks fine to me, too. And the paintjob is sweeet.

silent_jay 02-14-2004 08:41 AM

yes it does

Scorps 02-14-2004 09:33 AM

Ya cars do look a lot different in person. Like I love the new Chevy SSR and in person it looks even better!

silent_jay 02-14-2004 10:41 AM

Can't stand the ssr it serves no purpose

bad30th 02-14-2004 02:32 PM

of course you wouldnt like it

silent_jay 02-14-2004 06:29 PM
