interested in a motorcycle
 

i have had this idea floating around in my head for a while now, that if my future turns out a certain way, i would like to get a bike. i have never owned a bike before nor driven one, but i have gone for rides on my uncles and have very limited experience on dirt bikes.

the kind of bike i would be looking for is a street bike that is quick but not the fastest or the best, but definetly something that can still lay it down. around my neck of the woods, i have seen alot of the suzuki gsx/r. how are those? i have also seen a couple honda cbr's. i kind of like those. are they ok for a first bike.

If you never have really driven a bike before...take a motorcycle safety course..that will usually waive the road test at the dmv..plus you'll learn alot. For a bike get a bike around 300cc-750cc and you should be fine...don't get something too big or your asking for trouble...and get something japanese......the reliability and smoothness is so nice :)

well i would obviously take a motorcycle safety course. you can not get your motorcycle liscence with out it.

Ditto on the safety courses, the ones I took were actually a lot of fun. Some of the guys take them almost every year to brush up, and it cracks me up to see these big Harley dudes on Honda 250 nighthawks, but seriously it increases the most important mental knowledge of riding. Anyway, about the bike, I've never riden one myself (although I've thrown a leg over a couple) but the Suzuki SV 650 might be what you're looking for. It's stupidly cheap for what you get and consistantly gets rave reviews from critics. You should at least check it out. In the same vein, some people really dig the Ducati Monster series. not to bust your balls, but this topic has been covered in depth several times. do a search and find the threads for LOTS of discussion on the topic.

My ex girlfriend drives a GSRX,she loved it, she's a small girl and the bike is almost too big for her, she does a little work on it herself, like custom taillights and exhaust. You got me on how many cc's her engine is.

even though it has been mentioned it cant be stressed enough...take a safety course!....i would not go any higher than a sv650/monster 620 maybe 750.....personally a great starter bike is a ninja 500 good power, good everything.....remember you have your whole life to build up to bigger bikes...

Depends on the state, if you under 18 in Wisconsin you have to take the course to get a license but if your over 18 you can either take the road test or take a safety test which costs way more money. but waives the road test.

MSF is a must. I would not suggest starting off with a 600 sport bike. But it all comes down to self-control and if you believe you can handle it, who am I to stop you.
