took car to shop... being cheated?
ok... i had my transmission rebuilt in flagstaff, arizona at an aamco it was during my drive to school.... after they were done the check engine light was coming on... they told me that it was something with my emissions and shouldnt worry about it till i got back home so i took it to the aamco here in lubbock and theyre wanting to charge me $70 to plug in my O2 sensor... should i try to argue with them about it??
the aamco work is garunteed for a year... and it sounds to me like the guys who did the transmission forgot to plug the O2 sensor back in...

Sound like the forgot to plug it back in, too. Either that, or they didn't plug it back in tightly. Call another mechanic and ask them whether the O2 sensor is typically unplugged as a step in rebuilding the tranny. If yes, tell your wrench to go suck an egg.

It's common to need to remove the downpipe (where the O2 sensor is typically located) to pull the transmission, so I'm not surprised that they unplugged it to do that. It'd take a mechanic about 2 minutes to diagnose an unplugged O2 sensor and it should be covered, so I would definitely fight that charge.

yea unless a replacement o2 sensor is in that price I would definately fight it. to diagnose it all they would do is plug their reader into your computer port and press a button, and if i is wrong it takes less than a minute to plug it back in. like what was mentioned earlier it's on the downpipe of your exhaust usually less than a foot from the block. If you go to an autozone i believe they have a deal where they diagnose the problem for free, it takes only a minute and may help you out.

remember to write a nice letter documenting the tale to AAMOCO corporate offices.
maybe you should also give them a call too. Quote:
