Stupid heater problem with my car
Well my car is a 1987 Cadillac Sedan Deville. I'm having a really stupid heater problem. For some reason when my heater is on defrost on the high setting it fogs up my windows and the air has a small hint of antifreeze scent. Earlier in the day I checked my thermostat and I wasn't getting any upper radiator hose pressure. So I changed my thermostat. (I put my old thermostat in a boiling pot of water and the old one didn't open) Before I changed it the air coming out of the defrost smelled heavily like antifreeze. Does anybody know what could be causing this problem?

The only way i can think of to smell antifreeze in the passenger compartment, would be through the heater core. If your smelling some, chances are its leaking. Not too expensive of a part, but can be a pain in the ass to get to.

of that 500 bucks, ill bet that about $450 of it is in labor too. Once you get to it, its an incredibly easy job to replace. In some cases though (like mine ) you end up completely dissasembling the dash and moving it out of your way. And that takes quite a bit of time. Probably took me about 4-6 hours to do, and i had to find all the bolts and figure out how the dash was on, so it went slower than it would at a dealer. All in all, get a free day and do it yourself.
