Subaru WRX

I'm going to be graduating school soon and am looking forward to securing a job and making a purchase for my first car. I've researched and test drove a few and have fallen in love with the WRX, b/c it's such a better deal, I plan to buy one that is one or two years old with less than 15k miles on it. (they exist) from a personal owner.
I would like anyone's opinion on the purchase. I have talked to a friend of mine that is a mechanic and he told me they are great cars.
Anything would be helpful.
Thanks in advance

It's a subie, it's a pretty bulletproof car, except the trannies. They are pretty weak under stress, I blew mine up. A few others locally here also had the problem. Later first year models had alot less problems with them, then the early first production models.

Great car, fun to drive. Reasonably fast, and for about 1500 in mods, can be a 13 second car. MAYBE high 12's if you catch a good launch. (Down pipe, up pipe, boost control, exhaust, STi engine mounts).

Pretty safe too, I rolled mine doing 130 in a 35. Totaled the car, I'm still here. I learned my lesson. Broken finger and a minor concussion. The frame of the car was in tact, considering it rolled 4 times.

WRX's are fun cars. You'll like it.

But Jesus how did you roll it? Did you hit something? On a relatively flat surface, I couldnt roll my car if I tried...at any speed...

It was in September, pretty cold. Had rained the day before, bonehead ass me and my buddy in an Evo (BTW He wecked his too, not totaled, but still not fixed completely to this day) and we were fuckin off on a dirt road, got it sideways, passenger side hit the ditch line caused the car to flip, cops guessed it rolled 4 times, about 80 feet and landed sideways in the ditch.

Yes, it was stupid, yes I learned my lesson. =/

Morale of the story, I lived, I was perfectly fine besides a broken finger and a concussion. I won't do it again.

I have pics, but they are on 35mm film, I'll try and scan them at work tomarrow, if somoene has a place to host? I got pics of the Evo and the WRX.

Cop gave me a ticket for basic speed. I got lucky, in more then 1 aspect.

The wrx would be an excellent purchase. It made it into my top ten article i wrote.

My recommendation is to find one from 2000-2002. Unless you have a personal grudge against circle headlights, these cars are going for way less then people think they should.

I've seen 2000 model wrx's going for 8-12k. Usually from tuners who bought one when they first came out, but decided to ditch their half modified cars for the new STI's.

I totally enjoy driving my WRX. I have an '04 and I bought it after driving my friends '02. The car is fun to drive - even rush hour is fun. The tranny in the '04 seems bulletproof to me, then again I don't do anything super stupid pertaining to shifting gears and/or dropping the clutch at high rpms.

I have a MY03, which are called 04 in the US. I have always until now had large rear drive cars. I dont know why, cause the WRX is just unreal. I cant ever see me buying anything else.

Do your self a favor and buy a WRX........

I dig the WRX a lot, and for a lot less than an STi/Evo, you can have a much more practical ride. Go for it!
