Anybody know about bed slides for trucks?

I saw these on Monster Garage

http://www.bedslides.com

and want to use something similar to mount a compressor inside an enclosed trailer. So, does anyone know of a better source, close up pictures of the mechanicals, or have alternative suggestions?

Basically, the compressor I want to mount weighs 600 lbs and is 50" long by 22" wide and 26" tall.

I'm sure this type of thing could be built for much less than the $600 retail price. Any suggestions, much appreciated.

I heard they are good to help your back, so you don't have to crawl in the bed to get soemthing.

They help your back even more by lightening your wallet by $600. That's one help I'm trying to avoid. :p

im sure i can rig someyhing up like that out of angle iron and some rollers. Would require a mig welder and some skill, but it could be done pretty easily and cheaply.

Thanks.

Any thoughts on the rollers that you'd use or a source? I've been searching the web for something along those lines but haven't found any yet.

I would source some ball bearing i beam drawer slides. I found a couple of suppliers doing a quick google search.

You might be able to get some out of some scrapped hi tech equipment at a salvage yard or some other place where things that are rack mounted get chucked.

Good luck,

Thanks for the lead. Found lots of useful info under the i-beam terminology. Was searching using drawer slides and everything else I could think of. I have some requests for quotes out now to some that I found via the links.

Still may end up building it myself since they will probably be high priced as well, but at least there's a lot more detail in these pictures and I should be able to replicate some of their efforts.

Again, thanks for the info.

im a bit busy right now, but when i get a chance i'll hit my thomas register and find what im thinking of. Actually, you might want to hit http://www.mscdirect.com and poke around there. Even if you dont find what your looking for I guarantee you will still drop a hundred bucks.

Thanks JFP, I didn't know of that site. I look forward to hearing your ideas. I have been browsing around http://www.mcamastercarr.com and have found some very useful things.

Just ordered the trailer I'm going to use yesterday. Should get her in a month or so. Hopefully I'll have an almost workable solution by then.
