Normally, "nissan whores" isn't a topic meant to promote friendly discussion.
Yes, I'm a fan of Nissan cars - or specifically the Skyline. Beyond that, I'm fairly neutral on the rest of the lineup.

They have some nice cars....and some nicer ones coming out soon. They have decent performance and reliability. They are getting good at what they do, but by no means are they the best car, or always the best choice out there. They are useful, and worth the price....nothing more.

My friend is a huge fan of Zs and Skylines, not exactly family cars. Ive never owned a nissan and probably never will unless I get a good deal on a skyline.

Much better topic title.
Maximas seem like relatively nice cars. There are better performers out there, and more value in performance, but I wouldn't consider a Maxima to be a waste of money for someone that wanted a 4-door sedan that still had some performance. |

Well, the boards I frequent tend to understand "whores" as those who have sex for cash. It's not an endearing term.
Gonna quote myself. "Better performers" - I'm sure you'll not argue that there are better performers. No qualifiers were included in this statement. Hell, I can call a Mustang Cobra a family car as it has usable back seat, and it has better numbers than a Max. Bit of a goofy example, sure, but you get my point. "More value in performance" - Again, not a whole lot of qualifiers in this statement. I'm pretty sure that I can take the money that would be invested in a new Maxima, buy a used Crown Vic, use the remaining cash to buy mods, and slap the Maxima around. Your original statement boiled down to "Maxima = best family car". That's a tough order to prove. Comparable cars: Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Cadillac CTS Impala SS Chrysler 300M Mazda 6s etc, etc |

Well, the "more value in performance" doesn't mention anything about aesthetics. Personally, I think anyone that looks for performance and buys a car is wasting money any way you look at it. The avearge motorcycle will waste most cars on the road, hands down. If you move towards the top end supercars, you can still usually slap 'em around with high-end bikes, and pay 1/20th the cost.
The 6 does look rather nice. |

There is a stock maxima '02 that autocrosses regularly in the DC region. I was surprised at how poorly it handled corners with a lot of body lean. I also drove the Mazda 6 at the Rev it Up challenge, and those cars handle very nicely. I would take the 6 over the Maxima, even though the maxima has a little more power.

There is no place for a stock max at an autocross. I would agree with Pocon1 they are pretty sloppy in the corners, it does take a fstb and rear sway bar before they handle well at all. Straight line power is sweet and smooth but does not make up for the lack of stock cornering. The only thing I truly dont like about the car is the massive amounts of tourque steer, but i consider it a tradeoff for gobs of torque. and yes the 6's do look nice but 30 hp is more than a little, it would cost a fortune to buy that hp back (if that is the type of thing that matters to a person) Im sure there are people that teh 6 is a better fit for. And you are right moonduck any late model 6k bike will door just about anything on the road, I have not had a bike in over 5 years and can not wait to be able to afford another toy.

My old boss had a Maxima, and I was pretty impressed.
I just bought a new Impala SS earlier this year though, and have to admit that I'm in love with it. Sorry, I'd take my Impala over a Maxima in a heartbeat. No specs to back anything up, just pure personal opinion.

SC max's are pretty sweet, I was about to buy a Blue 96 Maxima. I was going to fly out, stay with Pezking4, then we would go pickup the car, hang out for a few days, then I'd drive back (to Washington )

The Max is a great car....on the domestic side, the best power comparo would be the Olds Aurora 4.0 V8 Northstar and the Pontiac Bonneville SSEi

2000 maxima owner here. love the car...previously owned an rx-7 (1993), and for the move to 4 door sedan, the maxima bridged the gap extremely well and far exceeded my expectations of a 4 door sedan. and isnt that what we are really getting at here? a big four door, front wheel driver that gets to 60mph in just about 6 seconds? and for under $30k, with as many creature comforts and amenities as any of your standard luxury cars. did i forget about the manual tranny? yeah, that's a nice option too.
