Yeah, its just a couple of older used cars, but they're paid for and get us where we need to be, so we're happy. :)

If you ever wonder over to the left coast, I'd love to give your NSX a run for it's money. Which engine does it have?

We're heading to Miami this Sunday, but we'll be in the Benz. We're going on a cruise and its trunk is WAY bigger (plus I ain't leaving my NSX at the port for 8 days).

It's a 95 NSX, which means 3 liter, 270 hp V6. I'm stock except for intake/headers/exhaust. I'm not much of a racer, I just like to drive and especially I like to go around corners at speed. I  2nd gear. :) Where are you at? We get over that way several times a year and might hook up for coffee/beer/etc. Ya never know.

I'm South of San Francisco. So how does it feel driving the same car as ?

fresnelly 05-05-2008 05:35 PM

2001 Ford Focus Wagon in the "Street Edition" trim.

We bought it new in 02 and it's served us very well over the years. Here's a picture from Skagway Alaska. This was half-way through a Cross-Canada roadtrip that took us over 13,000 kilometers. We went from Toronto west to BC, up the coast on the Alaskan Ferry, over to Whitehorse, and then south through Alberta to Yellowstone and finally back through the states to home. It was a great trip.

Oh hell, I thought you were in Florida. That's what I get for posting while intoxicated. Sorry about that.

As for how it feels, it feels pretty fucking good. I absolutely adore that car and drive it like it's part of me.

A 73 Beetle and no headrests on the seats? Or did you change them out?

Green one's mine, red one's the spouse's.

Wow, I love that Morris Minor Traveller. I could really see some surf boards sticking out of the back or on a roof rack. Very cool car ...a Brit mini-Woodie.

Do you still have that Protege? What's wrong with it that you don't like it? It seems like a nice little car.

Nothing is mechanically wrong with it. It's not a bad car, just not the one I wanted. That's all.

thanks! I love the vw bug, she's got a twin cam engine and sounds great! but the lotus really is my favourtie - grin like a kid at christmas time every time i drive it!

BadNick 05-18-2008 07:36 AM

fatbob,
I'm a big Lotus fan, those cars are great ...light and responsive. I'm looking at the Lotus 2-Eleven as a potential dedicated track-only car I can drive at occasional trackdays I attend so I don't beat up my other car. Here's the new 2-Eleven...over 250hp under 1500lbs.

the 2-11 is brilliant, had a wee shot in one a couple of weekends back.
don't know if you get many in the states but you should have a look at the ariel atom too if you are just looking for a track car.

BadNick 05-18-2008 07:26 PM

Ariel Atom is a great and very capable track car. But somehow it's ...too abstract for me. The 2-Eleven LOOKS like a car. Plus I'm old enough to remember the original Lotus Eleven's racing around, so the new one soothes my aging psyche.

Martian 05-19-2008 02:26 AM

I could never buy an Ariel Atom because I would never feel right paying $40 000 or more for what amounts to an engine from a Honda Civic and a bit of scaffolding.

But that's just me.

My DD.

I don't have any pictures of my "toy" but it's a red/silver 89 Dodge Shelby Daytona TII/555. It has some bolt ons and runs a conservative 18 PSI off the stock Garrett turbo. It's my third Daytona, and my 5th turbo Dodge.

Bear Cub 06-01-2008 04:54 AM

The new DD. Has 169 miles on it as of right now. Compared to the other 3 door hatchbacks in its price range, I don't regret my purchase in the least. Just did a very clean Sirius install in the car yesterday as well.

That's a handsome interior. No 5 sped, though? No clutch for Skutch?

BadNick 06-18-2008 07:47 PM

Of course it's very different than the classic old school SS Chevelle mold, but that sure does look like a well designed and appointed/detailed car. Nice.

Skutch 06-18-2008 08:41 PM

Right, it is no musclecar to be sure. It is a V6 after all, with a 6 speed automatic (no clutch for Skutch Willravel ;)). It's a cruiser not a racer, and while the steering is direct, there is a lot of body roll. The quietest cockpit I've driven in. The engine (and starter motor) is barely audible upon startup, and you cannot hear ordinary traffic noises around you.

Willravel 06-18-2008 09:03 PM

You can hear police and fire truck sirens, though, right? :expressionless:

When gasoline falls below $1/gal again, you might consider the twin turbo V6 package:

Malibus don't come in standard. I think it's a manumatic (also known as fake sequential-manual), but I'm not entirely sure on that. I'm basing that mostly on the gear selector anyway, since I can't imagine what else M would stand for.

Also, I'm amused that those photos are so new that you haven't even taken the dealer's paper floor mats out yet. Proud of your new car?

Cool, I like some of the Mustangs, especially a couple of the old classics. A guy I work with owns not one but two '68 428 CobraJet Mustangs, one hardtop and one convertible; they also have other valuable options like "drag pack" etc.; both have been in the family since new, the second one belonged to his dad who eventually aged to the point he was worried driving it so he gave it to the son.

cj22009 06-19-2008 11:22 AM

Nick the Mach 1 was my Dad's and he gave it to me and I had it restored I still have the numbers matching engine for it. I replaced it with a newer 460 that is pretty hopped up about 1000hp at the rear wheels I like it better than the new one but the newer one has all of the moderen convenices in it.

1000? Is that the Edelbrock aluminum crate 460?

cj22009 06-19-2008 11:45 AM

Will it is a summit engine but it does have aluminum block and heads just like the edelbrock. I went with summit because they offer teflon coated pistons and vaulve guides and heavier vaulve springs. You get a little more life out of it that way to.:)

Willravel 06-19-2008 11:47 AM

Very smart. The Edelbrock engine is really popular, so I figured I'd venture a guess. Still, stock those are only in the neighborhood of 500 hp. You must have had a field day with it.

cj22009 06-19-2008 11:57 AM

The 351 that was in it was still pretty strong when I got it but it had 150,000 miles on it so she was pretty warn. I have since had it rebuilt and have it sitting on a engine stand in the garage. I had it bored .30 over pop up pistons roller vaulves hot cam. I used the orginal 650cfm holley card and had it rebuilt also. I havent had it dynoed yet but it is probably 700hp or so. The only reason I haven't put it back in is it likes 107 octane and it isn't cheap or avalible every where. It is alot of fun with the summitt engine in it plus it will run off of 92 or 97 octane
