Buying a wrecked car.
Well I think I found a car for my friend. It's a 2000 Grand Prix GTP Sedan with 35,000 miles and it's wrecked. The damage seem to be:
Busted Passenger Mirror Dented Passenger Door Broken front clip Broken Corner Light Broken Hood Broken Battery Tray Broken Fuse Box Blown Airbags (both) Broken Rim Trashed Passenger Fender All airconditiong stuff...canister..condensor...is pretty much guarenteed to be wrecked. I didn't get to see in the engine compartment but i'm guessing it's fine. Well the car blue books at 16k but since it's crashed it isn't worth that of course. I'm wondering how cheap will they mark it down. And I have a buddy in the auto body business that will let me get my own parts and hang them on. I am just wondering would I be likely to come ahead if I saved 2-4k on parts? and would it be worth it? I'll try to get pics on what the damage actually looks like. And it also looks like the frame isn't bent at all. Also I figured if my friend got a car like this it would be a good chance for him to put clear corner lights on it and a custom ram air hood on it since it would need those anyways.

with that much damage, your probably gonna find a lot more problems that don't make themselves so obvious, such as suspension componets, steering components, cv shafts, (I believe the grand Prix is a front wheel drive) transmission problems, radiator, etc. would you come out ahead? it depends on what value you put on your time and frustration. Only you can answer whether it's worth it, but be aware the damage you described, leads me to believe theat there is gonna be more there that you haven't seen yet.

I think I'll have my friend that owns the body shop inspect it first. Of course he'll price it with all new genuine gm parts. But like I said the nice thing he'll use any parts I give him.

Sounds fuxored, it will cost bucks and after all the fixing it will still have a 'I've been wrecked hard core' tag that means it isn't worth shit..... unless you find some fool to buy it, 'Salvage Tital' cars are for people to strip parts off and fix their own slightly busted cars......
