i still dont see what is so great about skylines. they are only a 6 cyl. correct? what kind of numbers do they have, or are they just a glorified rice rocket.

It's HARDLY a glorified rice machine =/
12.5 for stock R34 and R33's. I've seen that time more then once, but they never post any trap speeds. =/ They are kinda like the Supra's, Skylines inline 6 can do 1000HP+. There is a few 8 second Skylines around too. Last edited by Kurant; 10-21-2003 at 06:19 PM.. |

Turbo Inline 6 engine is hardly something to laugh at. Inline engines are easier to turbo, have better technology and are more efficient for forced induction. That's why four cylinder cars are so common, they're inline 4.
The thing that seperates the Skyline GTR though is not the engine, it's the ATTESA ET-S(Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque-Split). Without going into too many details, it makes the car all wheel drive when it needs to be, and rear wheel drive the rest of the time. So for things like launching and hard cornering, all four wheels may do some work, but during straight lines and cruising, it's just another rear wheel drive car. This keeps the car from losing horsepower due to things like friction (AWD cars just naturally lose more HP through tranny) When the R32 first came out, Nissan won virtually all track events because nobody could keep up with ATTESA. Look forward to the new G35's. They're basically the skyline in japan. The highest model called the G35x will use a new ATTESA ET-S system. Then keep track of the tuning scene, because i'm sure some tuner company or another will slap a turbo on that badboy, permanantly labeling it the American Skyline GT-R.

The Skyline R32 GTR's were banned from Supercar races in Australia after they completely dominated the Australian V8 Holdens and Fords. It won 3 seasons straight before the V8 ego's couldnt handle it anymore and just basically booted them from the series.
I've always had a dream where they continued to dominate more and more through the R33 and R34 series. If that dream were true then maybe our cop cars and taxi's would all be Nissans rather than Fords and Holdens ![]()

The Skylines are basically the Vettes of Japanese cars -- they aren't like Civics at all. Beyond that, the people who posted above me did an excellent job explaining most about Skylines.

BTW, certain skylines are street legal in japan. but this one probably isnt, nor was it designed to be. it probably runs on an octane of fuel that no one could bye in the US, it probably idles like shit, and gets shitty gas milage so nobody would ever want to make one street legal. would you drive a lambo in the city, probably not. |
