My Car Hates Me....Please help!
My car has this little problem. It won't start. I put the key in, and i can turn it forward to turn on the accesories, but after that I can't turn it any further.
And yes, I did check to make sure the wheel wasn't locked, everyone has been asking me that when i tell them my problem. The car is an 87 Cadillac Eldorado. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? |
not the most technical response but its worth a shot. First make sure your key isnt bent or chipped. Second try wiggling the key into and out of the slot while turning the key. If need be try wiggling the wheel a bit at the same time.
it is possible the ignition switch is f'ed, anyone try jamming a screwdriver into it lately? |
Could possibly that your switch is bad. Which would be a pain in the ass to replace since if you caddy is anything like mine it has a a hard to remove covering over it.....Have you tried different keys? Like JusticeForPhat has said...wiggling is the best bet...

Is the car in park?
|
The lock cylinder itself is sticking or binding. If it is set up the way I think it is with the cylinder in the column than you'll have to pull the steering wheel and lock plate among other things to replace it.
|
double check that the gear is all the way in park. Many people complain about problems with teh key and cylinder, only to find out they accidentally didn't quite move the shifter far enough.
|
hit it w/ a hammer and it will work
