Hood / bug deflector
I have a hood / bug deflector ( I guess that is what it is called ) for my Toyota 4 runner still in the box.Should I put it on or not? What are the advantages of having it on? I prefer the look without it, but if it will be a true benefit, then Iwill put it on. Thanks for your input.

well it keeps a percentage of bugs from being smeared across your hood and windshield... but not all...

You know that area where your hood (at the end) curves down and latches? Well as you drive it more and it gets older, you pick up bugs and road debris. Over time that particular area will start pitting and paint will chip. On a 15 year old car that will be pretty sever and the front can start rusting (if you live in an area with rain) from the paint getting sandblasted off if not repainted.
If it doesn't look bad, then id say go ahead and put it on. It wont save much, if any, bugs from hitting your windshield, but in the long run, it will save teh front edge of your hood, maybe even as far back as teh fron half of your hood from getting hit by road debris and bugs. I've got one on my 87 Jeep, and dont have on on the 89 Blazer. I can definately notice a difference, and the jeep has more miles.

well one thing ive noticed with my explorer is that it might deflect some of the bugs... but mine has put rub spots all the way through to the metal on 2 spots at either end of my hood...*shrug* maybe whoever put it on did it wrong i dunno... and i dont know how long its been there...

I've got one on my truck and it does work, not perfectly but does work. Before I put it on I had some stone chips on the front (about three), since I put it on I have had not one rock chip on the hood. The bugs on the windshield are cut down a bit. And it does seem to deflect some of the rocks away from the windshield as well.
