Mitsubishi Evo's rusting after 5 months :O
|
hmm....interesting. I kind of hope that someone lets it go or really looks closely at it to see what happens. Or how severe the rust is. Thats a HUGE bummer for buying a new car. i would be pissed if i saw that stuff on a new car that doesn't get any rain or snow.
Will be interesting to see how it plays out, and if Mitsu Motor Co does anything about it or even adresses it. |
what he didn't pay extra for the dealer to put that undercoat on???
truly Mistu has to address it...especially for such a specialty vehicle |
That really does suck, and for such a new car, it sucks even worse.
Maybe hes just a fluke. |

Anyway, that looks like normal surface rust to me. Even a pretty new car will often have rust on a lot of the underbody, but it never really goes past the surface. I'd certainly keep an eye on it if I had one of those cars, though. |
Take it back and get a real car.

This affirms everything I have been saying about Mitsubishi quality....
To those unaware of what I am talking about, read the thread here in Motors entitled "Lancer Evolution..." a few posts down. Hooray for Mitsu for making such a craptactular car! |
These guys are going bonkers over something simple and normal. I've seen undercarriages on 2003 and newer trucks that have rust on them. Suspension bits, driveshafts, rear axle housings...and the like. It's normal, and only causes cosmetic problems.
|
jesus, first the RX-8 ends up slightly underpowered and costs Mazda an assload. And if this turns out poorly gonna cost Mitsu a lot.
Normally slight rusting doesnt bother me, as surface rust is somewhat normal, but this is in a structural area. A little scary. |
You guys are hillarious. My car has been rusting for 30 years and is still structuraly perfect. If you are that worried about a little rust after 5 months they need to start putting more metal in the cars!

Uhm, Im assuming Cynthetiq was being sarcastic.....

And for a BRAND NEW car to be rusted? UNACCEPTABLE in my book, I dont care what vehicle its on or if the manufacturer says "its normal." Bullshit. Cars cost too much money these days for me to buy one that is rusted. Jesus. |
In the pictures of the red EVO posted on page 8 of that thread, you can see that the problem lies in the way the car is engineered, there is a lip in which moisture will lay and eventually work it's way down between the two pieces, this is going to become an issue w/ the car in a very short while. Although the problems currently appear to be minor, these cars are basically brand new.
