I've got a '92 Acura Integra and I love mine. I haven't done anything other than a new intake on it, but it's definitely a nice car for cheap.
However, your friend seems to be in with the "ricer" crowd, which is something I would never do to my car. I might think about turboing it, if I had the money to burn and didn't want a newer/different car, but I'd never do external mods, never do NOS, never make it look like shit.

I drove a 4-door 1996 Integra LS for a while a couple years back. Even though it had the least powerful engine and an automatic transmission, it still was a fun car to drive!
I almost bought one over the summer just to mod up a little as a fun little summer car, but I never followed through with it. |

Those cars can be MEAN on auto-x's! BTW, does your friend have a wing on the car or plan on putting one on? Or clear/altered tail lights? If he does, definitely a ricer.
Anyways, a little too costly for my tastes, but if he knows what he's doing, tell him to have fun!

First off they are nice looking fun cars to drive, but they are nto all that good at teh autoX. If im not mistaken they are still only FWD (type R is too isn't it?). FWD cars just dont tear it up in the autocross like the RWD ones do. They are fun and handle well, but not quite autoX material. At least not competitively, but still well enough to almost hold there own.
Second off, minus the nitrous (which i dont really like personally but thats a different thread) he doesn't sound like a ricer to me. Lowering it, slightly bigger rims (they have 16's stock?), headers, exhaust, suspension increases, sway bars...Sounds like hes beefing up the power and handling to me. Nothing "ricer" about that. Oh yeah h'es got a tint, so hes a ricer There is nothing wrong with making a decent car at least look nice. he never mentions altezzas, fart cans, giant wings.... And i think the white integras look better with a decent tint on them. especially at night.

Well i guess i cant speak for your town, but amongst the Z cars, vipers, vettes, NSXs, RX-7s, etc... there are basically no FWD cars except of the mazda 626 that occasionally shows up. Come to think of it he doesn't do too bad, but still, thats pretty much the only one i've seen down there that does ok.

if its a REAL honda integra in the states then its an import. But yes, in the rest of the world an Integra is by honda, not acura.
They are by the same manufacturer, we just get a special name over here

Also, you're taking a car that costs MAYBE $20,000 and putting it up against an $85,000 + car. I would certainly hope the Viper wins! |

The rest of the world calls our Acura RSX a Honda Integra DC5. Our previous model Integra was a DC2. The new TSX Acura's putting out this year will replace the 4-door Integra. When car and driver reviewed the TSX, they compared it to the Sedan GS-R and they say the new car accelerates faster and handles better, huzzah!

Well, maybe i didn't make my point clear enough. i probably wont in this post either, but no matter. Its is definately not the RWD alone that makes most of the cars at teh autocross win over FWD cars. My point was that lack of FWD cars taht even compete. Now i live in whats practically the ricer capital of the world, so everyone and there mother buys a FWD car to take to the drags. that might have something to do with it. I guess im trying to say there aren't many FWD autocross cars, and the few there are dont usually do as well as RWD competetors in the same class.
As for classes, yes there are different classes. Me and my brother normally show up for the practice days rather than the actual competition days, simply because there is more track time. Even so, my bros 2nd gen RX7 convetible does get tossed in the same class as some vipers, corvettes, and i think even an NSX on some of the practice days.

My friend definatly isn't a ricer no gay wing, we're trying to stay along with a stock look because we love the Integra RS look but just a few things like the tint on his silver looks perfect and his exhaust is a performance exhast which was put there to make his car peak better not so the sound would be different or so the little hole on the end would look bigger thats not what hes after. with the Nitrous in there we figure his little old RS peaks around 180 to 190 HP now thats somthing you don't see in that kind of Integra everyday!

Sorry if I came off as attacking your friend, I must have seriously misread the original post.
I just love my Integra and absolutely hate seeing the riced out Integras near here, so I end up being a little defensive. Your friend's ride definitely sounds nice, though.

as far as the autocross goes, i prefer a RWD or a AWD over a front wheel drive car anyday. The average weight balance on a front wheel drive is around 60:40, and thats if its balanced really well. Ive seen a CRX that was a hair shy of 70:30, thats some crap. It takes some serious work to balance out the car without adding too much weight. The better rear and all wheel drive vehicles are 50:50. Driving a front wheel drive car with bad balance means massive understeer which means crappy, crappy times. I'd prefer either a vette, which is 50:50 balanced and has the added advantage of being able to throttle oversteer, or an AWD turbo eclipse / laser / talon.

Acura is the luxury brand of Honda. At least in the United States. Its the equivalent of Lexus to Toyota, Infiniti to Nissan, Lincoln to Ford, Caddy to GM, etc etc......
That said, I own the 94-00 Integra. Great little car to drive. I'm a convert. I'll definitely buy a Honda or an Acura for my next car. They really know how to build fun cars that are reliable. |

'92 Integra, still going strong at 168K. One of the things I liked about the Integra in those days was that the cheapest model (which i bought) and the most expensive all had essentially the same running gear. I didn't care about the frills, so I got a good-performing car at an inexpensive price. Probably doesn't work that way anymore.
Anyway, hopefully I'll get well past 200K on it and then I'm on to an Accord or something. I'm older now. I won't say that the Integra has been trouble free, but I think the biggest repair item has been a new radiator. |

My '92 Integra has 193,000 miles on it -- still chugging along with no problems as long as I perform the regular maintenence on it.
I plan on driving it straight into the ground, which should take a few more years.
