Got the blocked dropped off at the shop today....the following will be done:

Boiled

Magnafluxed

New Cam Bearings

Bored .030 over

Decked

New Oil gallery and Freeze Plugs Installed

And fully balanced

Next steps:

Wait for engine block to get finished and then paint it then start assembling

Pull broken bolt out of timing chaing cover

Get valve covers powercoated wrinkle black.

Finish polishing all my brackets.

Get new power steering pump 130amp alternator, pmgr hi torque mini starter. And round up a bunch of other misc stuff

To pricey....if I totally mess up the old cover i'll just get a new one...if I can find a spare i'll use that instead. This week I my valve covers should be done being powercoated, they should look sweet!

Found out my old harmonic balancer isnt' safe to use The rubber in the middle is old and dried out. An OEM one is $100 and an aftermarket one is only about $80 so i'll go for the aftermarket one.

On Tuesday the 8th i'm gonna pick up my other 6 rods and my camshaft (i'll take pics it shoudl be beefy )


Got all my pulleys organized and I gave them to a good friend of mine. He's gonna make me a full set of racing aluminum underdrive pullies for free!!

Found a really good tutorial for porting and flowing stock ford heads. If I remove the air injection in the heads and port the hell outta them they will flow better than edelbrock heads (not 100% sure on that but anything is better than stock)

w00t I stopped in the engine shop today and every little bit of machine work is done. They are sending the parts out today to get balanced and hopefully I should be able to pick it up next week. Then comes the paint and they said I don't have to do any tolerance checking and just slap it together! Also I picked up a new balancer for about $70 and picked up some sweet ass comp cams racing pushrods for cheap.


Here's a pic of my dirty oil pan I just steamed clean...which will get bead blasted and power coated

Yup a bunch of people intercool them using Volvo intercoolers....it makes for a really fast car. Plus alot of people use the 2.3L's in pintos for drag racing.....

anyways...

I'm desperately hoping to be able to order my clutch and roller rocker valvetrain this week and maybe my starter and alternator.....I found a schweet tubular k member, a arm and coilover kit.......i think it would make it lighter and easier to work on anything........anybody else recommend it?

Nah the k member and coilovers aren't worth the $$$ with a mild motor. Spray it! Spray it! Those heavy ass TRW slugs will take a beating with a 150 shot, and even those stock con rods should be able to hold up. You just damn well better keep an eye on your fuel with that Edelbrock carb, they lean the hell out of those things from the factory. If you plan on taking it to the track, I'd sooner invest in a decent set of control arms. Stock lowers = wheel hop city.

I tend to prefer forced induction over nitrous. It's cheaper, and I never have to refill my supercharger to get any use out of it Plus it's less likely that you'll grenade your engine, which you can do with NOS even when it's set up right. If your fuel pump or injector(s) decide to die when you're hitting the spray, you can kiss the motor goodbye.

I'm going to disagree with you on that one. When set up properly, you're not going to grenade your motor at any greater risk than you would with a blower. If an injector/pump craps out on you, you're going to do the same amount of damage if you were running boost levels comparable to that of the nitrous, not to mention the fact that you shouldn't have had an inadequate fuel setup to begin with. You can't immediately stop boost with a blower setup, whereas you can with a cutoff/microswitch with nitrous. You're also going to have a much cooler intake charge with spray than you would a blower. Not to mention that he already bought flat tops, which is going to make his compression kind of high to be able and run any decent boost without one hell of an intercooler.

I'm more than happy to spray a 175 shot on my 12:1 sbc without forged internals, and I've been doing so for the past two years, without a single failure to date. Am I pushing the envelope? Probably, but I'm confident that when something goes, its not because of a nitrous issue because I took the time to set it up properly. Same reason I'll be more than happy hitting the $10k 434 with a 400 fog every weekend

Well nice thing about older domestics is if I trash the body I can dump that engine in anything I want from and older mustang to a granada (yikes) The reason why i'm fixing it up is cause I love working on vehicles and it should be a nice quick car once i'm done with it

To each his own. There are other factors to a fast car IMO besides performance---Economy is not one of them. Nobody should skimp on the engine. If you don't want to pay for the gas, go buy a Civic (which, despite the opinions of many people around here, is NOT a race car). How about the sound? My buddy has a Nissan 240sx with no exhaust at the moment--as in pipe blown up right after the cat--and 2 weeks ago it was blwon up right BEFORE the cat, and it still sounds like a freaking sewing machine. It's a fun car, nonetheless, but I think this mustang or my 383 cu. in (~6.3L for the import guys) will smoke the living hell out of it when completed.

I suppose I could've worded my original statement better, should have read "it's not a DRAG race car". Sure, the Lotus and the Porsche are probably good in the quarter, but that's not what they were intended for. Shoehorn a massive V8 into a small car and chances are it's good for one thing--going real fast in a straight line. Which is what I assume the main purpose of this mustang is going to be for.

If I don't know anything about cars, I suppose we can overlook the fact that I'm rebuilding a car from the ground up that's older than me? Sounds good.

No wonder you prefer 4 bangers! Have you ever owned a car with a huge V8 torque monster and roasted the tires with it? And when that blown engine DOES break, better hope you kept the money you're saving by getting better gas mileage!!

Yay more pics......got some progress done....I still have to pick up my friggin block....been to lazy though.....i've been busy getting the little shit together for the block....anyways

Here are my heads i'm using they are D80E heads so they are stock...once I do some nice heavy porting I should have at least decent heads....They are totally rebuilt and I got them off of ebay for only $160 shipped....they will get me down the road
Hopefully I can use them with my camshaft I bought....I'm worried about valve spring bind...i'll take it in to the shop that did my block and have them double check it first.



As you can see by the pic of my exhaust ports that air injection bump will be ground out!!!

And had you said that originally, I'd have most likely agreed with you.

BTW, that mustang will smoke a civic in a straight line any day of the week. I'll enjoy watching the mustang try to keep up in the twisties though

Oh, and yes, I have owned a V8. Several in fact. I've owned just about every type of car other than an SUV. I found the V8 (mustang) that I owned to be a shitload of fun - in a straight line. Wasn't worth crap in the corners, damn near gave me heart failure at the gas pump, and when it came right down to it, my Civic Si was more fun to drive anyway. Note FUN TO DRIVE. I'm not racing my Civic. Never thought of it as a race car. Never bought it with the intention of racing it. I bought it because it's like driving an enclosed gokart, and I modify it because I enjoy making it more than it originally was.

I'm not one of those ricer idiots who slaps an intake on my Civic and thinks he can take on Vipers. What I mainly object to is that it seems that a lot of people think ANYONE who likes improving their civic is a ricer. Never occurs to them that some of us actually know how to make it faster and don't put fake shit on it. And if that thought does manage to penetrate the cracks, they then spout off about how "well it'll never be faster than my (insert American car here). Our response to that is, so the fuck what? We don't care. We want it to be faster than it was. If that makes it faster than your car, that's great. If not, who cares?

I'm just tired of all this domestic vs. import bullshit. You drive your car. I'll drive mine. I can appreciate the good points of your car, and if someone can't appreciate the good points of mine, it would be nice if they would kindly not make an ass of themselves by trying to prove that their car is somehow superior.

Well said Shakran...every car has it highs and lows

I should get my engine back this friday and then the engine will get a 3 coats of high temp old ford blue engine enamel.

Then I will put the cam in, the crank in and the pistons and rods...then once I find some replacement bolts for the ones I broke, the timing cover and water pump will be placed on the block

Well for bodywork I just want it to look stock....i'm not gonna hang a body kit or a big cowl induction hood. I like them stock....my doors are rotted out but I know a guy who owns a body shop and he'l probably swing me a deal since I do all his computer work for him. He said he can fix my doors and a couple of rust holes in my fender.

Another funny thing is my roomate keeps on giving me shit everytime I buy parts for it (today I bought a K&N airfilter) He keeps on saying why should I buy parts when I don't even have the car driveable......It's because I want to build it right the first time...sure I could hang a bunch of shit or half ass working parts on it to get it down the road....I just want a nice looking fun car that I can tinker with and if some punkass kid at a light that comes up to me and cocks off(in a camaro, honda bmw...make and model dont' friggin matter) I can toast his ass but...hopefully I will start building my engine next week.

Another funny thing is my roomate keeps on giving me shit everytime I buy parts for it (today I bought a K&N airfilter) He keeps on saying why should I buy parts when I don't even have the car driveable......It's because I want to build it right the first time...sure I could hang a bunch of shit or half ass working parts on it to get it down the road....I just want a nice looking fun car that I can tinker with and if some punkass kid at a light that comes up to me and cocks off(in a camaro, honda bmw...make and model dont' friggin matter) I can toast his ass but...hopefully I will start building my engine next week.
Oh I loved it when I lived out west(B.C.) and when kids in there Honda's or Mustangs would pull up next to me and at that time I was driving a friend of the family's 1967 Chevy Camaro, with a 4 gear, 454 Big Block with a Wagner(sp) Supercharger, the blower sticking out of the hood....that thing had power...I would leave them behind....

Well I got some pulleys off of ebay for $56 they are blue and made of steel but they are underdrive ones...they will get me buy until i get those made by my friend...i have a bunch more stuff to be sent off to be powered coated. i can pick up my block on tuesday then i should have plenty more pics
