1964 Chrysler Saratoga Pimpin' since been pimpin'

I have this fairly cool car sitting outside. It's got alot of birdshit on it, but I'm gonna clean it off. check this thread over the next few days for pics. Anybody know of a free web service that allows outside image linking? You won't be able to find much on the web. It's a fairly rare car.

UPDATE: I finnally got an MSN Group. This might work if I'm lucky. Bear with me and don't expect not to get red x's.

That isn't a 318......Mopar small blocks have the distributor in the rear. *sniff sniff* I smell big block. Maybe a 383? Hmmmmmmmm....you may have a very rare big block there, the Chrysler RB 383 was only produced in 1964. But it could be any big block really, anything from a 350 to a 440. Sounds fun in any case. I sure love the old ones.

yeah, well as you may be able to see from the plates, (see the second pic), its plates were last issued in '86. My father told me it was a 318, but he could be wrong. Also, it turns over with a battery, but it doesn't run, yet. But you just wait! I want to save up for a nice paint job, think candy-apple red with a white vinyl top. Is it just me, or does the view from the front end make it look like a frog?

Sounds like a great project, spankthrough, great choice of colors.

Mopar guys, assuming it is a big block, is there any 3 - 2 barrel intakes out there for that old of a block? Those kind of intakes are incredibly cool looking.

Keep us updated

I know very little about cars. I'm just kind of getting educated right now. Hopefully all of this will be a good learning experience.

it means that instead of a gear shift, there are buttons to go from drive, reverse, neutral, etc. pretty cool.

Hmmmmm, It's either a 383 or a 413.....

383....

413....

My best guess would be 413, It's going to need a fuel pump for sure.... fuel pumps dry out after sitting for a long time, and the carb is going to have to be taken apart and totally cleaned out, I'd pull all the spark plugs and shoot some WD 40 in all the cylinders..... Drain the oil and change the filter, flush out the Radiator and make sure the Tranny is full of fluid, the gas tank will probally have to be cleaned out too.... the way I get old cars that have been sitting for a long time started is to run a long piece of fuel line from a gas can to the fuel pump..... that way you don't suck up any crap from the tank.

There's lots of other stuff that needs to be done but getting it fired up is the first.

Have Fun and keep your thread updated

my grandpa put oil in the cylniders when he put it in the shed. i probably need new plugs, wires, points, and the such. i also need to get some hepa masks so i don't get hantavirus from all of the mouse crap in the interior. new oil filter, new air filter, new windshield (you may or may not be able to see the crack in it,) and if i've got the cash, i need to get it reapolstered, new interior door covers. I also need to glue the "r" on the rear of the car, and the "c" on the front of the car. man, this is gonna cost me, but it'll be one sweet ride.

In any case, it's a Big block. Whoever it was asking about 3 2bbls, yes they're available, and it's known as a "six pack".

I'd upgrade to an electronic ignition. All you'll need to be smokin' the ricers is a cam, intake, carb, and headers (hey riceboys do you know what those are? better performance than those stickers too) and ooooh think of the sound of that thing idling

Sweet ride indeed.

Well, the 64 Saratoga seems to have only come out with three different V8's.... 361, 383 and 413..... I couldn't find a pic of a 361, I'm just guessing it's a 413 because that would be the most common engine, It's really hard to tell.... they all kinda look the same, a pic of the engine without the air cleaner would help because the carbs were different..... the fact that it's orange is odd, it should be blue...... the breather in the valve cover on left bank dosen't seem to be on the orange engine, but it should be there..... without the VIN or a better pic it's just a guess......

Ahhhhh, No wonder this car has been driving me crazy, it's not a 64...... it's a 63, they changed the grille and tail lights in 64... the standard engine in 63 was the 383, the optional engine was the 413.

1963

1964

You were right MM It's a 383!

shit! i really thought it was a 64! i guess you should never beileve your father. what year did they stop putting fins on this model? and where did you find the pics? i've been looking all over for them! anyways, this makes me look clueless. however, check the decal on the grille. mine is red. but ashton's picture of it is red and blue? irrelevant? anyways, thank's for correcting me. i told my dad about the distributor thing and he said that it probably was a big block. anyhow, i'm not sure if he'll think i'm crazy if i tell him its a 63 and not a 64.

Hmmmmm, more imformation on mystery car...... not only is it a 63, it's a Chrysler 300....... I couldn't find any 63 or 64 Saratoga's on the net so I dug out my old Hollander exchange book and sure enough not one Saratogo listed.... the front end guide showed me it's a 63, 300

Here's a page on the 63 Chrysler's....

http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/.../chrysler.html

And a few scans from the Hollander.......

Teh front end guide.....

Teh hubcap guide........

Teh engine identification guide

The guide says there should be a T-38 on the engine under the distributor..... T for 1963 and 38 for 383.

LOL! I should read my own links! the reason I couldn't find any imformation on the Saratoga was because the 63 Saratoga was built for the Canadian market! You have a Canadian Chrysler

So would these been made in windsor, or detroit? i'm guessing windsor, but windsor is basically the part of detroit sticking into canada. anyways, this is too cool! I am gonna spend all the money i get my hands on to get this thing fixed, and paint the body festival red and the vinyl oyster white. is there any more pictures i should take to show you guys? just ask for some

I bet the VIN goes.... 8 for Chrysler V8 then 2 for Chrysler 300, then 3 for 1963.... then next # is the Assembly plant.... the last six numbers are the sequence numbers, I wonder what # your car is of the 1,625?
