2005 Honda Pickup By: Michael LevinePosted: 07-17-03 18:00 © 2003 PickupTruck.com Even large corporations can bow to peer pressure, especially when there are potentially huge profits to be made. Following on the heels of Toyota and Nissan, expect to see Honda offer a pickup for the 2005 model year. While this isn't quite as soon as predicted earlier, the rumors and whispers about this truck are still pretty much the same as when we first talked about them a year and a half ago, but a few new twists have emerged. The 2005 Honda pickup will likely be based on the successful mid-size underpinnings that serves as the platform for the Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot and Acura MDX. What's unique about this choice is that Honda will use unibody construction, deviating from traditional body-on-frame design used in today's pickups. But while its manufacturing may break new ground, its styling won't. Accounts from sources describe it as, "looking like a rugged Pilot" with four full-size doors and a shortened bed. Access to the cab is also expected to include an Avalanche-like "Midgate". Since Honda doesn't have a V8 engine in its lineup, and it's doubtful it would create one for just this vehicle, expect to see the same Honda SOHC V6 used in the Pilot show up in this truck. This could change if Acura produces a long-rumored V8 for its RL luxury car. |
I think it'll look dumb. I just can't see that H brand on something brute and tough. The Titan, on the other hand...
http://www.car-data.com/photos.previ...titan.30.1.jpg Titan Info That's a truck I could see myself in. |
I'm not a truck fan - I like my cars, and I drive a Honda.
That being said, I think Honda shouldn't bow into the truck market, resist all temptation! |
I definitely wouldn't mind some Japanese engineered trucks running around here with all the bowtie and blue oval stuff. That titan looks like a Ford F-150 from the cab back.

In a recent interview with the Honda President, CEO, or whatever, he says that they have no plans or intentions to build a truck. I hope they don't.

I personally don't like all the space-age, rounded designs of trucks these days. The Ford F series and the GMC Sierra are the only two that seem to retain any of the tough looking, hard edged goodness that makes a pick-up a pick-up

I'm getting tired of trucks and SUVs that are covered in "tough-looking" plastic crap. The bumper on that thing isn't as bad as most, but it certainly follows the trend.
The plastic junk allows them to cut weight and increase fuel efficiency, but the designs that try to make them look beefy are getting ridiculous. |
the picture doesn't look so bad.. if they ever do come out with it, you're guaranteed it's good quality

WTF ... a Honda pickup ... fock that. I'll keep my Dodge, a true AMERICAN truck

wont be popular in Texas....
