Toyota's Killing Kittens at KY Plant

“I was advised … that ‘if it [were a choice] between 1 minute of down time for the assembly line and the kitten, the kitten would lose.’” —Eyewitness

PETA’s Domestic Animal Issues & Abuse Department has received documentation of what is alleged to have been a June 2, 2003, incident, during which Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK), employees deliberately caused the mutilation and death of two kittens whose location posed an inconvenience to production. We are told that the employees present—a maintenance team member and the maintenance team leader—were made aware that at least one kitten was trapped inside a trailer in the process of receiving heavy cargo. Employees are said to have refused outright to manually unload the trailer in order to spare the kitten. When the cargo was finally unloaded, two kittens had been mangled in the machinery. While authorities consider an investigation, we need your help to break the silence at TMMK.

Local authorities have decided not to file criminal charges in this case, reportedly because they do not believe that there was “intent.” However, § 525.130 of the Kentucky Revised Statutes states, “A person is guilty of cruelty to animals in the second degree when except as authorized by law he intentionally or wantonly: (a) Subjects any animal to or causes cruel or injurious mistreatment through abandonment, … mutilation, beating, … tormenting, failing to provide adequate food, drink, space, or health care, or by any other means” (emphasis added). The statute defines “wantonly” as follows: “A person acts wantonly with respect to a result or to a circumstance described by a statute defining an offense when he is aware of and consciously disregards a substantial and unjustifiable risk that the result will occur or that the circumstance exists” (emphasis added).

Please urge authorities to take these allegations seriously, conduct a thorough criminal investigation, and file appropriate charges against anyone who deliberately hurt and killed kittens at this plant. Politely remind them that individuals who demonstrate a blatant disregard for the lives and suffering of animals likely also pose a definitive risk to the community at large (see http://www.peta.org/mc/facts/fsc24.html):

Jesus fucking christ! I hope this is a joke. If not, who gives a crap if a couple of little kittens were killed?

Tandem 08-11-2003 04:46 PM

Sadness - but then again, WTF were kittens doing in a manufacturing plant? - their loss.

Pragma 08-11-2003 05:28 PM

Sucks to be the kittens, but seriously - stop manufacturing for however long it takes them to get the kittens out of an area that they clearly should not have been, or let them get killed?

Stopping work costs the company a lot of money, as then they end up paying employees to stand around and talk while the kitten gets rescued.

It sounds to me very fishy, sort of like PETA has a grudge against Toyota and "planted" the kittens and waited to see what would happen.

This is retarded. I must say I have a thing for PETA. They are a wonderful group.

Hahaha not as bad as a cat getting cut in half by a air compressor v belt....now that is a mess!

miked10270 08-12-2003 01:23 AM

That is Sooo.... sad.

They say that every time you wank, God kills a kitten:eek:

http://www.hosstyle.com/Goofy%20shit...killssmall.jpg

I personaly resolve to redress this terrible tragedy by foregoing 2 of my wanks:p

I'm sure that many other TFPers will do the same, so while 2 kitens are dead, collectively the kitten population comes out ahead:)

Mike.

Elitegibson 08-12-2003 12:06 PM

lol Mike. It is really weird that the kittens were just around there in a manufacturing plant. Wouldn't it take just as much time later to clean out the machinery of dead kitten guts?

Ashton 08-12-2003 03:00 PM

The extra time it would have taken to save the kitties would be better than all the bad publicity........ They would have been "Hero's" instead of "Kitten Murderers" Now they have a bunch of Hippy Peta freaks after their heads.....

Halx 08-12-2003 04:20 PM

Every time you buy a car, God kills *2* kittens!

Pragma 08-12-2003 04:57 PM

Halx, I think I'm going to quote you on that one from now on.

ozzybogan 08-13-2003 12:52 AM

Thats farking terrible.

Pretty bad that the lives of two living creatures stand in the way of an hour or so of machine plant time.

When did people become so inhumane?

lukeduke 08-13-2003 07:15 PM

As much as I hate cats, it is terrible that anybody would think that saving a few dollars would justify the killing of innocent animals. What exactly is a life worth these days? But then again, Americans don't mind killing innocent people for the priviledge of driving. Look at what we are doing in Iraq just so we can drive our precious SUVs.

If they were rats, would anyone care? PETA might, but I doubt it would have gotten any press coverage.

"lets stomp them with this here forign car."

poipu2000 08-15-2003 08:33 AM

So that explains that meowing sound I hear under the hood of my tacoma whenever I punch it up to 4K rpm.

RemyLebeau97 08-21-2003 09:50 PM

::bows head:: God Bless the kittens....can we fucking eat now ??

BoCo 08-21-2003 10:33 PM

I would have taken the time to save the kittens, but I don't care that they didn't.

irieemon 08-22-2003 04:55 AM

with the cost of unloading that trailer you could buy a pet store and get a bushel full of kittens

macmanmike6100 08-23-2003 09:13 AM

Oh please. What a joke. Two kittens, whose death would make any soul weep ever so slightly, are not the imperative of a company.
