Keyless entry
Anyone have a recommendation for a good keyless entry kit? It's for a 1996 Passat GLX Wagon...any of the VW guys know if there's a trunk-release solenoid in the Passats? I've been unable to find a lot of information on the 96...most of what I'm finding is geared toward the current generation, from 98 on...
Any thoughts? MPEDrummer

If your car has power door locks your best bet is to get a Viper alarm system, it will work with the power door locks and you will have a alarm as well...... If your car dosen't have power door locks they have a kit to install them. If you don't have a button somewhere in the car to open the trunk there isn't a trunk release solenoid. They make a kit for this as well.
My Viper unlocks and locks the doors, opens the trunk and I can start the engine with the remote. They even have a add on that can roll the windows up and down and another that will page you if the alarm is tripped ![]() |

My vote goes to the viper alarm systems. Not only are there plenty of options, but depending on what options you really want, there are different kits and setups
Me, i just have the base kit, and it only has an alarm and locks/unlocks doors. I paid about 150 for the kit and maybe another 50 for installation. The kits go up to like 600 bucks and have great options for those who have money to blow. There are definately better systems out there, but the viper has been around and seem to be very reliable. I haven't had a problem with mine yet in the last two years.
