Dropped my tranny today :(
I own a 1992 Dodge Stealth ES.
Today I dropped my tranny I also destroyed my differential And I wasn't even having fun I wish I could say I was running from the cops or trying to set a new land speed record but I was going 45mph in 5th gear and BAM THE END I'm looking at wasting about 2K in repairs Anyone else have a bad day? |

Lemme guess, threw a bearing in the tranny? Sounds like what I'm going through. Just in the process of dropping the transmission now, always gotta have that damn differential supported while removing the driveshaft, etc.
But its been so fawking cold here (Canada), I've been without the car for almost 3 months now. I know the pain all too well.

The pin came out of one of the gears then shot thru the tranny case. At the same time my dif dropped and ate itself then I rolled to a stop to find all my fluid purged onto the ground. Fortunately the tires did not lock up. Still it's going to be $$$
I appreciate all the replies. I'll post a pic of my car when I can find it. Thanks

I bought my car used with 75k miles, with the assurance that the previous owner had gotten a new transmission installed at 50k.
I hit about 100k miles, and the transmission needs to be replaced. Checking back, it turns out the seller only had a tiny part replaced, and the transmission was by no means "new" at 50k. Alas, the tranny died, we spent 1K+ repairingit, and then the car gets totalled by a truck less than a year later. The car ('95 Grand Am) seemed to have things go wrong with it every other week, and while I do miss it, I am wondering how much more money I would have poured into it, if I still were driving it. Right now, I am walking, using public transportation, and getting rides from friends/family. Fun, fun... not. |

Anyway, we recently lost a CV joint on our racecar, man that is a bitch. Driver spun out and rolled backwards with the clutch engaged, we think it was just enough stress to break the bitch. We pieced it back together for the short term and it most likely wont hold up very long.

Yeah the dodge stealth IS the Mitsubishi 3000GT, there is no diff, except the name on the outside. Damn imports, hate um. American cars are the best, well thats my opinion. But on a downside to my day I had my muffler hannger crack off which caused the muffler to drop and in doing so it cracked one of my exhaust pipes. $100 bucks, not bad compared to the trans and rear end, but still a pain. By the way I drive 1971 Mustang, pure detroit power.

Well the only good thing I see is the car does have 190,000 miles. Eventhough the tranny was rebuilt recently the dif was not but oh well I'm over it. I'll probably start working on it in a few months.
