Caddie mechanics??

This is a long shot, and is my first post here.. so here goes:

Any Caddie mechanics around? I've got a problem with my 99 Eldorado that's been nagging me for years now.

I had a very nice Pioneer stereo system installed. Complete with Subwoofer, MB Quartz and Infinity speakers and an Amp (the make of it escapes me now). The stereo works FABULOUSLY. it sounds wonderful

The problem is that it seems to be screwing with the stock alarm system in the Caddie itself, and (this is the bizarre part) it seems to be triggered by temperature changes in the weather.

I live in MA, so we can have wide ranging temps from day to day, and It seems to trigger this behavior..

What happens is that the remote key unlock refuses to work. If I manually unlock the door and turn the car over, the alarm goes off and sometimes the digital display shows "WARNING: CAR MAY NOT RESTART".

WHat I have to do to get around this is the very instant I turn the car over, I THEN have to hit the unlock button from the remote to get it to work. It seems almost like a power drain somewhere.

To further support the power drain theory - one of my headlights won't light up when the car DOES recognize the unlock signal from my remote.

It's completely bizarre. I've spent LOTS of time and money on the problem, and so far nobody has been able to fix it.

I'm living with it because the stereo sounds very nice.. but I'd love to get it resolved.

Any ideas anyone?

Did you take it to a GM dealer yet? It may cost you an arm and a leg but they might know whats going on.

Not yet. $75/hr for labor.. and they don't even know where to start. My local dealer essentially yelled at me for putting something in place of their "premium sound system" anyhow.

I was not pleased with that response to say the least.

you dont need a mechanic, you need an electrician.

am I correct in assuming the problem on started after you had the audio system installed? if so, you should have taken it back to the place that did the install immediately. they fucked it up, they should fix it. since you didnt do that right away, it may be too late now to get them to honor their responsibility.

does it make any difference if the stereo system is on or off?

I'm in agreement with Sion. Check your phonebook for an auto electronics specialist. They should be able to adequately diagnose the issue and won't care if you replaced your stock stereo.

Try relplacing the alternator and battery with more powerful ones, and adding a second amp.
