Customize My Bus
 

So of friend of mine and I decided to go halfsies on a short (21 passenger), yellow school bus. We don't necessarily want to turn it into a party bus used exclusively for getting lots of people from place to place with a stomach full of alcohol. the focus is more along the lines of turning it into a Winnebago/Weekend Trip vehicle.

so far, the suggestions that have made sense that i plan on implementing into my Chariot of Glory are:

Take out seats so we won't have to get special licenses
Shag Carpet
Maroon Curtains
Hammock Hooks
Mini-fridge
Sound System
Independent car battery to power auxiliary electronic systems attached to removable solar panels on the roof instead of alternator
Smallish TV. no flat screen or anything that would cost me more than $50 in the event of destruction.

What should I add? what shouldn't i add? What does TFP know about bus maintenance?

That sounds like a blast! I'm definitely rooting for some psychedelic exterior paint, preferably with a large Om, onc, or sacred heart as the centerpiece, done in either air brush or obviously hand-painted (read: imperfect) car paint.

How about a bathroom.

A chemical toilet is a pain to install, but well worth the effort I should think.

I would check local regs before actually doing the buy, if you haven't already. You're probably fine, but you'll want to make sure you're not running afoul of a length or GVWR restriction. Your local MOT equivalent (DMV for the yanks, I believe) should be able to tell you.

i thought about a chemical toilet actually (a friend suggested i cut a hole in a chair and bolt it down over a hole in the floor for a toilet) but the trouble with the toilet is having to empty it. my signature should clarify half of the reason i'm not getting a toilet. as for the need to expel solid waste from the body while in the Chariot, i went dogsledding and i didnt want to poop outside so i just kept it in for a week. if i can, others can too.

as for the paintjob, graffiti has always been a small passion of mine and i plan on tagging up one side with a really intricate piece and just leaving the other side schoolbus yellow. hopefully the effect will turn out something like mike tyson's tattooed face. i like the ideas about the Om and other esoteric colors but since i'm in the military and i dont like being woken up at 5 to do drug tests, i'll have to hold off on that until i get out.

how about some special effect ...errr I mean F-X lighting? Both inside and even under-body day glo. Never saw lighting like that on a school bus but I think it would look cool!
