Powered Mirror Problems
Just got a 1996 VW Passat GLX Wagon. I know, I know, a wagon? But I need to haul my drumset.
Anyway, with the VR6 engine and a 5-speed manual, this thing flies! Anyway, I have a point, and a question. As of right now, the only problem is that the power mirrors don't work. The switch is sorta falling out of the door, and the mirrors don't respond when I'm trying to use it. So...to the VW guys...am I doing something wrong, or is it broken? If it's broken, where can I get another switch, short of through a dealer? Also, one of the floormats is missing...a minor detail, but whatever. Any suggestions for where I can get replacement mats? The mirror switch you're stuck at a dealer or a junkyard. The floormats can be got wherever you choose. Those switches really aren't that much money. Under $50, if I remember right. I work at a VW dealer, so I do know that little bit...I think.

i know what you did wrong! You bought a VW. Just kidding, they are appealing, but I had a new Jetta in 92 and it had alot of electrical issues and the tranny fell out at 80K. I think they were better in 96, but keep it maintained the best you can and don't get behind fixing those problems cause they may keep coming.
Definately get an electrical tester and check fuses, and if there is power at the harness, and if possible at the mirror, good luck.
