Help me choose some new wheels for my Civic

I've narrowed it down to these four. They're all 17x7", Hyper-black in color, and within $10 of the same price.

Now it's up to you TFPers to help me choose which one I'll buy.

if you had a more muscular car (like a camaro or mustang) i'd pick 1 or 2, but I think that 3 or 4 would look better on a Honda.. (i went w/ 4 cause it looks clean and not over done)

drawerfixer 07-13-2003 03:06 PM

I vote 1!

JStrider 07-13-2003 03:34 PM

either 1 or 4 i voted 1 but they are both pretty good lookin...

MSD 07-13-2003 06:28 PM

I say 1. My brother, who happens to be looking over my shoulder, says 1. I don't think 4 would look bad, but I like the forked 5-spoke design.

VirFighter 07-13-2003 06:45 PM

I'm a big fan of 5 spokes and I liked the look of #2 :)

Bike-Mad 07-13-2003 11:52 PM

I'd go for #4

I've seen these on a friends R-type and they,re wicked

3x0 07-14-2003 02:18 AM

my vote is no.1 ;]
if one wouldnt be there i'd go for no.4 then

89transam 07-14-2003 09:16 AM

1 for sure....3 is the ugliset i think

Snoogans 07-14-2003 09:24 AM

#3. Kinda depends on what style you're going for though.

Tech 07-14-2003 09:33 AM

1

2 is okay but 1 is better

3 is not right for your car

4... too much like every other 10 spoke civic out there

End User 07-14-2003 09:16 PM

I voted 1. I dont like how the spokes on #4 taper off towards the edge. I would have gone #4 if the spokes were just straight.
This site may help! www.modifymycar.com

Jbinh4 07-14-2003 10:32 PM

1 or 2 would be my choice

brandon11983 07-15-2003 07:35 AM

#3 because it is the most unique. there are a lot of wheels similar to 1, 2, and 4 out there.

sixate 07-15-2003 04:44 PM

I'd get 2. Hidden lugs look best.

Sen 07-15-2003 08:10 PM

I think 1 would be cool.

BoCo 07-15-2003 10:01 PM

End User, that site is pretty sweet. I think that #1 is going to be the winner. :)

Scorps 07-16-2003 02:31 PM

Number 3 is what I would go with but who knows what they look like on the car.

I think 3 would look good on my truck:)

Just 17 inch

art 07-17-2003 08:54 PM

Not only will that slow your car down acceleration wise but it will look to big, you shouldnt go any bigger than 16"

Sion 07-17-2003 09:11 PM

speaking strictly in terms of which wheel I like best, I vote for #3. However, as art mentioned, on a Civic, I dont think 17 (or even 16) inch wheels look right. Personally, I wouldnt invest that much money in wheels for a car like a Civic.

Also, in order to fit the tire/rim combo in the wheel-well, you'll likely be going with some really low profile tires, correct? probably 50's, right? Keep in mind that extreme low profile tires like that will make the vehicle's ride very rough. Tires are part of the suspension system, and as such, they perform some of the same function as shocks/struts, ie absorbing the assorted bumps/shocks of the road. Low profile tires, because they have short, stiff sidewalls and less air (by volume) in them, do not absorb much in the way of road shock. Now granted, the car will handle more like a true sports car with them, but the trade off is a rough ride.

just a friendly warning from a former tire salesman.

BoCo 07-19-2003 12:21 AM

Thanks, Sion, but I wasn't born yesterday and I know plenty about the affects of low-profile tires and how shocks work. In fact, I already have coil-over shocks with incredibly stiff springs and I love the way my car handles. The tires are actually 40-series, and have 3.38" sidewalls which is plenty. Right now I already run 15" wheels on 50-series Pirellis with 4" sidewalls. As far as spending money on wheels for a Civic, WTF is your point? I bought the car because I planned to keep it until I'm an old man, not so I could re-sell it once I got bored with it. Also, in a couple years--maybe less--I plan to move up to 18" wheels with 35 or 40-series tires under flared fenders.

I ended up going with choice #1, but in silver instead of black; they look much better.

otter 07-21-2003 10:39 PM

I think #4 is the most flattering for a car like that, the smooth lines of the wheel will compliment your black civic (it was black, right?). I don't like hidden lug nuts. Also, don't civics have 4 lug hubs, or did they change that? If so, hoping these are available in 4 lug, all the pictures are 5. :)

amge 07-22-2003 03:49 PM

#1. But I would put in larger brakes to fill in the gap.

castex 07-22-2003 05:02 PM

I voted 2, and I'm pleased you don't agree.

Mill 07-22-2003 05:10 PM

Which is the lightest? I put heavy wheels on my old MR2, and hated it.

BTAC Type-S 07-23-2003 07:55 AM

Mill raises a good point. Light wheels are crucial! Big heavy wheels will slow you down way more than you would imagine.

That aside, I'd go for number 4, no question.

cookiezzz 07-23-2003 08:33 AM

#3 please. They are definitely the nicest. Although on a civic I would probably choose some smaller (but still nice looking) rims. I guess I'm a lonely breed.

Booty Man 07-23-2003 09:38 AM

Good choice with number 1..............but maybe you should have bought the real ones.........Advan rims ownz! :D

cookiezzz 07-23-2003 09:50 AM

Oh, you already chose. I feel so stupid now. Good luck with your car anyways. :)

troit 07-24-2003 06:26 AM

I'm a fan of the simplicity of #1. Always like to keep it simple when it comes to rims.

Hurricane 07-24-2003 07:47 AM

One is nice indead, it gave me idears to put some weels on my MX6 :)

FastShark85 07-24-2003 08:53 AM

I like #3, but go with the lightest one, whichever it is.

bleet 07-24-2003 10:16 AM

i was thinking of some wheel like that you've posted, but with a machined lip to it.. what do you think about those?

i went with #3,.. i like a little bit of lip on wheels, and fwd's need a little to look good to me.

bleet 07-24-2003 10:22 AM

http://wheelwarehouse.com/image/TENZO-03.jpg

not necessarily this exact brand but this idea?

chodarama 07-25-2003 01:17 PM

1 or 4

I've got a 98 accord v6 and i'm looking at some wheels almost identical to #1

extalin 07-25-2003 01:22 PM

you probably already know this but...make sure you get rims with a 4-bolt pattern (the pics of 1-3 are 5-bolt).

Stare At The Sun 07-26-2003 01:22 PM

I just gotta go with one, it has the best overal look, and its more unique than the others :) Pimp dat shit!

Tickford 07-28-2003 10:28 PM

Number 1 is the go.........
