coupe not coupe'
Here is a photo of an early coupe, built by the legendary Jack Moss of Amarillo. I took this photo about 1953. It was quite an unusual car, built like guys wanted to build them back then, quick & solid.. It was originally a 1930 A roadster. The car had the roadster doors, no windows, so he used side curtains that snapped in place if bad weather. He grafted a chopped coupe top, zeed the frame front & rear. Therefore, had all the interior space of standard roadster, but car was quite low. It was quick, nimble & handled very well, by 1950s standards. Power was by a bored/stroked flathead Mercury, twin carbs, full race cam, big valves & all the good stuff.. Transmission was a Ford with Lincoln Zephyr innards for higher ratio in 1st & 2nd.
I loved that car. First time I saw 125 mph was riding with Jack on Gem Lake road, west of Amarillo. Watching the front 5:00- 16 motorcycle tires get skinny and grow in diameter was amazing to me. Never seen that before.. He & a buddy drove it to Bonneville in about 1954 and ran 128, on pump gas, then drove it back home. He does not know where it ended up, but wishes he does. (It looked better to me with the original Rudd /Ford wire spoke wheels without those huge chrome covers.) from couz'in Leroy............xoxoxoo
