Your back up lights are turned on by a switch on the transmission. Your switch is probably bad, or just disconnected.

As far as I know, the back up light switch for cars during that era is found on the transmission. Is your camaro a column shift or a floor shift?

That means the switch is on the trans. Look towards the rear top-that is where there will usually be a connector that signals the reverse lights. If access is bad from below, you might have to tear out some interior to get at it from the top. Test the connections first and only change the part when you confirm that the switch failed.

The switch is not in the shifter that's on the floor, it's on the transmission itself. Find the switch and test it. Until you do that, you probably won't have much luck finding the problem.

^^^what cj said. should be on the tail section of the tranny, probably the driver's side.

No offense but judging by your approach in here is seems that you really do not know enough to do any work on your car. Take it to a mechanic or a friend that knows more than you and pay them to diagnose and solve the problem. If you are interested, ask to have them explain what they are doing step by step but it sounds like you are interested in a cheap fix more than actually learning to wrench.
