First off, where the hell did this kid get that kind of money from?
And B, thats LAME. REAL LAME. Just by looking at the cab you can tell no thought or design went into it at all, just a matter of buying the power and the dB's. It's people like my buddy Manny Alves at T-Rex Audio here in CT that I respect as far as the SPL contests go. With only 2 Onyx 18's and 10 US Amps he's getting very near that 170 mark, thanks to countless hours of tweaking the console, plates, port size, ramping, etc in the cab. Nothing but raw MDF and fiberglass everywhere. Whats going on in the articles interior? A single ramp and a fuzzy wheel cover. Just the fact that this kid is using a tape deck rather than a remote head unit kind of makes me shake my head... |

On a side note I saw a db comption back in 98 in Kansas City. That was just damned impressive. Bt it really is not for every one. Just like NASCAR is not for everyone. To each his own. And that is what really makes auto's so cool. There are so many facits for everyone to enjoy.

Good read thanks for that,
I am into car audio, but not that big in any means. To me, a part of it is builiding a great enclosure, but personally that is more of the SQ comps (sound quality) I believe that is a sport in it's own sense, that's where artisitc merit come into place and time and effort pays off. Now with DB drags, all it is, is a contest of whoever has the most $$$ wins. Any goomba can toss 20 subs in a truck and leave wire everywhere and then boom out some sound. So that's where I stand, good for them, they enjoy it so that's good. But SQ comps is what is truly car audio competition. |

SPL systems are designed to do one thing, be very fucking loud. that is their purpose. fidelity, linearity, harmonics, and sound quality are all pitched. much in the same way that SQ systems are designed to be sonically perfect and pay no attention to SPL.

Im thinking that he went about it all wrong...Db drag to me is the least amount of equipment that optimizes all of the interior space of the car. I only had 2 Adire Audio Brahma 12's in my last car with an MTX 81000d amp. I was hitting about 134's at Db drags, adn that was out of the trunk. All i have left to say is just port it right.

Mind you, these teams are sponsored. So it actually isn't very expensive at all.

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

i hadnīt heard about dB drag racing.
it sounds hilarious... but i like my hearing too much to invesigate that scene any further. seriously, thats a hell of a lot of devotion to his vehicle. wonder if he ever had any other urge to spend that sort of cash on anything else?

Just saw this post again and laughed. The numbers that it puts out is really unimpressive given the drivers and the power. There's a team out there right now with a very secretive design with the loudest dB car ever recorded, WELL into the 170's, and on some meters, not too far from the 180 dB mark. And they're doing it with a SINGLE subwoofer, and a lot of science behind it.
BTW, congrats to my buddy Manny Alves at T-Rex Audio. His Onyx's had a bunch of bad coils, and after swapping over to some American Bass 18's, the Lamborghini green Rabbit finally eclipsed the 170 dB mark :-D |
