I just bought a brand new Lancer Evolution X GSR!

Last year I bought a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3. I got a little tired of the 6-speed tranny and the springiness of the clutch so I looked at getting a brand new 2008 Lancer Evolution X. They had them for dirt cheap with Mitsubishi finance offerings so I went for it!!!!!! The Evo has always been my dream car and now I finally have it.

It's not only my dream car but it's also in my favorite color, Graphite Gray (gunmetal gray is what most call it).

291 horsepower/300 lbs of torque stock, AWD, 5-speed manual

There is a local tuning shop that can dyno tune Evo Xs for $350 with the dyno printout and consistently adds 35-40 whp by simply adjusting the ECU. I am getting this done as soon as I save up the cash which will put it at 330ish horsepower.

Sweet ride bro - take me for a ride!

Willravel 05-21-2009 12:36 PM

That thing is a beast! I can't wait to see the dyno.

Congrats!

Threads like this make me wish I didn't need two cars...I'm sure my monthly expenditure for the Fit and van are about the same as yours for this :(

Although, were I suddenly in a buying position, I have historically been more of the subaruvian persuasion...I know nothing about the current revision of either this or the STi, though.

Runningwater 05-21-2009 12:52 PM

Nobody does it like Bob King Kia...Noohohohobody!

nomcat 05-21-2009 01:07 PM

Sweet ride!!

I've never seen an AWD on a dyno... must be a specialised setup. :)

shakran 05-21-2009 02:07 PM

That, is one hell of a car. Nice grab.

I've driven both. I like the Mitsu better. The Scooby didn't feel as confident in the curves, and the boost came on weird. Wasn't linear at all, which made the car buck a little bit at full throttle.

Redjake 05-21-2009 02:19 PM

awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Me and you, next weekend, SRT-4 vs. Evo X GSR!!!!!!!!!!

Plan9 05-21-2009 05:07 PM

I totally just "jizzed in my pants." That car is so fine. I'm envious.

PonyPotato 05-21-2009 05:12 PM

I'm partial to the Mazdaspeed3, of course, and mine is "Metropolitan Gray Mica," which also happens to be my favorite car color.

I'm not a huge fan of the body style of the Lancer Evo. I test drove one once upon a time, and it just didn't work for me.

I'll also probably never tire of the 6 speed hatchback, so it's all good. ;)

Xerxys 05-21-2009 05:25 PM

Wasn't lasereth amongst the people who told me not to get a flashy car?? Yes, yes he was, I see what he was doing here .... **fumes**

j/k

Dude, totally hot car!!!

Plan9 05-21-2009 05:37 PM

Pfft, it's not flashy, it's all sorts of performance-oriented subtle sexy. Whew!

If it was mine, I'd totally paint the "Flying Tigers" teeth on the front.

Define "dirt cheap" please. :D I think I might need to hop on this sometime in the near future.

Keep us posted on the tuning venture.

Lasereth 05-21-2009 06:00 PM

Mine was around $27,000.

Stare At The Sun 05-21-2009 06:02 PM

Looks real nice man, grats!

BadNick 05-21-2009 07:45 PM

nice! Congratulations and good luck with it. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it.

fiatguy85 05-21-2009 09:18 PM

Awesome car. I haven't driven one of the newer ones, but the last Evo I drove was pretty amazing. I think it was an Evo 8 MR.

ChrisJericho 05-22-2009 04:34 PM

Very nice looking, however I think fast cars require bright colors !

vector_1979 05-23-2009 07:55 AM

Very nice motor

Cynthetiq 05-23-2009 08:49 AM

Fast cars in bright colors attract a lot of attention, including that of the police. I'd rather be able to drive fast every now and then without drawing too much attention, but it all depends on what you're buying the fast car for in the first place.

Regarding attracting police, I already knew that.

When I bought my WRX I could have gotten a boring color like white, black, or gray. But I chose to stand apart from the masses and their dreary color scheme, which is why I went with world rally blue.

I don't want to threadjack here, the GSR is a fine auto no matter what the color.

Wrexify 05-26-2009 04:58 AM

Congrats! If you ever need someplace to leave it on the weekends, just let me know

blahblah454 05-26-2009 03:36 PM

Nice ride! I love that color.

Sorry to threadjack here and make everyone envious of me, but I put in an offer for a 1990 Olds Eighty Eight yesterday!! Yea thats right, and its blue!

Pics? ;)

Redjake 05-26-2009 06:03 PM

I also demand pics of the 1990 Eighty Eight.

blahblah454 05-26-2009 07:22 PM

Well you all asked for it, get the kleenix ready to clean out your pants.

http://www.cargurus.com/images/2008/...pic-39715.jpeg

This is not the exact one, but close. The one I made an offer on has some slightly different, but still awesome features; such as:

-Rust around the wheel wells
-No fancy hubcaps, straight spoke kind, complete with bends and rust
-A dent in the font bumper

Yes you heard that right folks, and yes I will post pictures to steal TFP glory once I get it!

Just two rollers instead of one. I took this video a few weeks ago when my friend was in line with his newly supercharged TSX. Click through for HD.

Excellent choice, good sir.

I'm all for getting knuckles bloodied via wrenching. Get yourself a good free-flowing exhaust, maybe a larger intercooler, and even a boost controller if you're feeling risky.

And get that thing on the track!

Lasereth 06-01-2009 07:03 AM

I had a chance to race my brother's Neon SRT4 this weekend on a closed circuit track. We didn't do any real racing, just some drag racing from a dig and some rolling pulls as we had limited time.

I have a 2008 Evo X GSR. His SRT4 is stock, so is my evo.

0-60 I had him by 1.5-2 car lengths.

15 roll, 20 roll, we're dead even all the way to 100.

30-100 I win by half a car length.

40 roll, 50, 60 roll to 100 it is dead even.

70 roll I win by half a car length to 110ish.

I used to own a SRT4 and I forgot how fast they were. Good god it surprised me.

I'm really considering a tune now!

haha, you don't need a tune, you just need a TURN! the neon was made to go in a straight line. it does other things alright, but it's skidpad is about .86 and the evo X has a ridiculous like .99g or something.

don't fret too much, the general consensus is that the X is a little slower straight on than the IX it replaces, but it's better in the corners and around a track. i have no doubt you'd beat the crap out of your brother in anything other than a straight line :)

Lasereth 06-02-2009 04:08 AM

Yeah there's something exhilarating about going around an on-ramp at 60 MPH.

PonyPotato 06-02-2009 04:39 AM

Oh god. On-ramps and off-ramps. My bf also has a Mazdaspeed3. He took an off-ramp (with two really tight turns, s-curve, no less) at like 65 last weekend. I almost peed my pants.

I mean, I know my car's capable of that, and I'm pretty confident driving it.. but sheeeeeit it's different being in the passenger seat.

Lasereth 06-02-2009 06:52 AM

The MS3 is known for its excellent handling as well. There's a reason it keeps winning Car of the Year in its category!!

desal75 06-06-2009 04:56 PM

All wheel drive and a turbo. Every car should have those. Congrats.

Jinn 06-06-2009 05:49 PM

Indeed, I love the EVO X because it's the only car that can hang with my RX8 in corners. Just like the X lost some speed over the IX, so did the RX8 over the RX7. But boy can we have fun in corners. :)

Telluride 06-09-2009 08:05 AM

Nice car.

It's undoubtedly faster than my Bronco...but my Bronco could probably roll over it. :)

Lasereth 06-29-2009 12:16 PM

Well the dealership wants $2,200 for the upgraded bigger spoiler for the Evo X before labor. My dad can get it for me for $1,900ish before labor. Today I found a guy on the Evo forums selling his big spoiler in the same color for $250. I hope I get to him first.........

Lasereth 06-30-2009 04:35 AM

Annnd it looks like he's sold it to someone else even though I messaged him first. Gotta love people on the Internet.

Lasereth 07-01-2009 07:10 AM

Wow it looks like I might wind up with the big spoiler. The money order is on the way to the guy!!!!!!
