The Apocalypse Is Upon Us!!!!!!

Interesting article. It's hard to believe that Toyota would actually use the brandname and not just park it away as an F.U. to GM. We'll see I guess.
Perhaps they'll sell the name back to GM for profit. |
I keep waiting for the "April Fools!" punchline.

In a related story, zzzzzz....

Yeah. I would cry if crappy Toyota purchased the rights to the Oldsmobile name. Biggest disgrace...ever.

This would be like selling the Washington Monument to a Chinese business consortium.
DE137, How do you come to use "crappy" as an adjective for "Toyota"? To me this combination seems to come more from emotion than reality. |

What got me is that the article was dated to March.
That and the weak state of the American auto industry. |

I beg to differ and I am old school muscle car crowd ...hell, when I go to the local speed shop for their monthly meets, most cars there are muscle cars but the knowledgeable ones have respect for the Supra. Mine is hugely exciting and since I was 20yo in 1969, there are probably no muscle cars I haven't driven except a rare few. My '95 Toyota Supra now has over 600hp to the wheels; even factory stock except higher boost it had over 400whp; and when I go to track days it will outcorner and outbrake most cars there. At the most recent Texas Mile competition that was a couple weeks ago, against all sorts of twin turbo Vipers and Vettes and Porsches, the #1 and #2 finishers were Toyota Supras, #1 hit 229+mph in the mile; last year's winner was also a Toyota Supra. |
so i came in on this a little late, but i figured it had to be a joke, since toyota (who is doing REALLY well in the american market) would never pick up the name oldsmobile. nobody wants an oldsmobile, at least not a new one... that's why there aren't any.

Well if they did buy it, it would be so cool if Toyota would reissue the '65 Olds 442. That was my favorite, they got a little too large for my taste after that. Dreaming.
