Formula Drift
I've been watching the 2007 competition on ESPN for the last couple of nights.
I was suprised at how short the runs were. For some reason, I thought the races lasted longer with fewer runs. I'm also finding it very fun to watch. I caught myself saying "I can do that" more than a few times. Having done a lot of "drifting" in snowy parking lots as a youth, I am very impressed with the car control on dry pavement. Going sideways around a corner at speed and staying just a few inches off the other car's bumper is quite impressive. Anyone else watching this? Opinions? |

I was watching it, too. I usually enjoy it, though I'd prefer watching a nice competitive road race, but not many of those on the tube. I agree that it takes skill to slide around like that so close to the other car and the wall etc.
When I first got my sporty car and the roads were wet, I used to go out after dinner just to slide around a bit and get a feel for the car ...not when other cars were anywhere nearby. I've always wondered how it would feel to race on ice, like the ice races on frozen lakes of the northern climes. Though I suppose it can get so cold that the ice is not really all that slippery. |
