2008 Cobalt SS engine redesign - about fuckin' time

Finally, Chevy did what they should've done from the start - stick a damn high output turbocharger on the Ecotec engine, not a blower......

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/28/o...-bows-at-sema/

Good news to see the Cobalt SS turbo redesign.

260 horsepower, 260 lb-ft torque, 0-60 MPH in 5.7 flat - what the SS should have been from the start

Can't wait to see the sedan version, hopefully it will keep similar numbers on the 0-60 trap and 1/4 mile ETA

Switching from the old Ecotec engine to the new 2.0L LNF - will also be in the turbo HHR (rocket sled?), is already used in the Sky Redline and Solstice GXP

Good news!!!!!!!!

Looks like the Mazdaspeed 3 will have some competition!

Yeah, I agree. The supercharged Ecotec is a good engine, but the turbo version just so much better. Hopefully, then incorporated direct injection in to this engine, just like the Soltice GXP and Sky RedLine.

Wow, that's a definite surprise, since last I heard, Chevy killed off the Cobalt SS because they couldn't make it meet California emissions.

Maybe they just said that to throw us off track?

Maybe Ford will see the light, stop dicking around and give us the real Focus instead of that ugly contraption.

A modern day Cavalier anyone? The resale value will still sink like a stone in the first year, buy it at X price, sell it for $15,000 less.

I hope the resale is shit. That's how I picked up my first DSM.

They say it did the 'ring in 8:22. If that's true, that car's in good company with the likes of the BMW M Coupe, Nissan Skyline (R32), and BMW M3.

I don't know how accurate or up to date this list is, but if it can run this fast, I think we're looking at the new king of Cheap Thrills.

The pictures on autoblog aren't of the turbocharged Cobalt. The real car is here

Either way, it's a shame it's a FWD. We have the same deal here in Australia. Small, sporty, turbo coupes in FWD. They look great, go well but lack that final fun factor.

It's a shame they didn't change the looks significantly. Same goes for the interior.

I like what they did with the engine, the ecotec is great!

However, I will still be getting the MS3 when I sell my RX8, but I am really interested in seeing a head to head comparo betweent the two.

With a decent tunable engine, it could be a new tuner car if the right people see it as a cheap second hand car with the potential for lots of aftermarket parts and play their cards right. It'll never be the new '94 Civic/Integra, but it has a lot of potential because of that devaluation.

It's what the market demands. I don't like it, but I understand that it's what sells.

Amen, that car is fugly. Anyone who wants power will go for the Dodge Challenger, Chevy Camero, or the now veteran Mustang

Provided we ever see the Challenger or Camaro.
