Extreme 4x4 - not what you think!

I want it! This may go a long way in helping me with my midlife crisis. You know, the need for speed, adventure etc.

I emailed them and they can adapt to sip and puff, so I could use it. I'm psyched!
Now trying to sell the idea to my insurance company, will be a challenge.

Wow. Does it have front tires or not? ...have you seen the segway wheelchairs? Now those seem pretty awesome:

When I first posted the picture was there the link must gone dead, on their site the frst picture is deceiving if you scroll down you see all 4 tires.

I used to think the Segway wheelchairs that would be cool but doesn't compare to the Extreme 4x4. Raising six feet and climbing stairs vs. cruising on a beach and trail riding!

I want one!

Looks kinda neat. Wonder if the center of gravity is lower then it looks. Dosnt seem like it would be all that stable. I personaly dont need anything like this but ever since i saw that stephen king movie silver bullet with the dirtbike trike/wheelchair i have wondered why wheelchairs were so limited. Good to see someone finaly starting to do something about it. Wonder how long it will take for them to make a gas electric hybred version. A small 5hp engine stuck on a generator to recharge itself and some more powerful electric motors. Something to go at least 15-20mph to keep up with a bicycle. Needing to be able to go indoors as well makes it a bit tough with the size it would need to stick to.

Good luck convincing your insurance to pay for that thing. At that price your going to need to rob a bank or something if they dont. It would be cheaper to get one custom made.

it says it weighs 289 pounds, so unless the human onboard has a huge heavy head, I think it would be quite stable since the motors and batteries are quite low, the upper frame is only a small part of that weight ...low center-of-gravity = stable. Does it come with a turbo? ...j/k

Dude, that thing's HOT! You should see if they can do custom colors on the frame or something! It'd be sweet!

Brewmaniac 03-30-2007 12:27 PM

Jazzy, it does come in different colors check out their site.

:shy: OK, I should have done that first.

What I did just discover is that I used to write the product liability insurance. Interesting.

Are you in the insurance business? Did they have any huge claims? Would you buy one, given my circumstances?

Plaid13 03-30-2007 04:00 PM

look at the site tack on some of the options and the price goes up over 20grand pretty fast.

Maybe if you tell them you live in the woods and need to roll through a nasty unpaved trail to get to your house =P you know up hill both ways through a foot of snow.

Sorry, thought you knew that Brew. I'm a wholesale casualty broker, which is a fancy way of saying that I place really tough product liability (among other things) for other insurance agents.

As far as these guys go, when I wrote it a few years ago, they had some problems with their chargers on scotters. There was one that started a fire that killed someone, but they made some changes and had a small recall, as I remember. I was only on the account for 1 year, and I don't remember any claims that amounted to much.

That's only the loss history, so it's not the end-all, be-all of the product.

If I were in your circumstances, and I liked the chair as much as you seem to, I'd jump all over it, especially if it met my needs and promised as much additional freedom as I imagine it would. I imagine that you're excited at least a little by the prospect of taking onto the beach at your parent's house. At least I would be.
