HELP! Ford 351W (5.8L) EFI engine rebuild.. UPDATE****
I have been working on a 91 F150 equipped with the 351 Windsor engine. Has the EFI intake that lays over the right hand cylinder head. Has all the Air Injection systems, etc. The bloke who pulled it apart, has quit, and I have stupidly agreed to try and get it all back together. Am on a bit of a time limit, but don't want to rush anyone...
I have got the heads back on, the valley cover, and rocker covers on, and now need some help placing all the rest of the bits..... I know where everything goes, sort of, but some pics would really help. If anyone has access to a similar engine, can you take some pics and email em to me? Need lots of pics, from a few engines if possible, so please send away! This engine was probably used in other vehicles as well, so happy to look at all the options. The only thing is, please tell me what car the pics belong to... Although this Effy is Australian RH drive, the junk under the hood should still be the same. I dont want you to pull yer car apart, but simply take lots of nice clear pics of the mounting points of things like the coil pack, vacuum hoses, electrical connections, etc. If the intake pipes coming from the air cleaner to the throttle body were off in the pics, that would be a help, but don't do it unless you really want to. PM me for email addy. In case anyone is interested. Who ever rebuilt the engine a few years ago, left the locating dowells out of the block, and it had 5 broken head bolts. Thank you! update |

old car/truck service manuals are on the web.....I've posted some links here on the MOTORS forum.........will search and repost here......xoxoxoo
p.s............I've got a 91 F-150 with that engine too http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...service+manual http://tocmp.com/ try here:thumbsup: |
Thanks for all that.
I registered with the forum and had a look around. LOTS of pics of everyones trucks, but no pics of engine bays. Interiors, exteriors, even some shots of underneath! but I couldn't find a single engine bay pic.. Thanks for the links, Bobby. do you need my email addy ;) |
Try eBay for a Haynes Manual on that model, worth the price even if you have to buy a new one from your autoparts store. They cover a complete tear down and rebuild.

YOU SHOULD ALSO LOOK ON E-BAY FOR THE FORD SERVICE MANUAL....2 PHONE BOOK VOLUMES....ONE BODY /ONE ENGINE....!!!!!XOXOXOO..
am taking the pic's as soon as it's lignt!! xoxoxoo |
The vehicle does have the factory (2 phone books) service books, but the pics are generic, with little or no detail... For example, a pic(drawing) of the valley cover shows a certain bolt in a certain position, but when installed in that spot, it fouls other components. The bolt should be 1 hole further forward....
And I don't want to buy the books, because I'll never use them again, and the owner of the vehicle won't want them. In any case, it would be 2 weeks + before I got them, and I want to have this thing out of my shed this week.. Thanks Bobby. PM sent .... Thanks Bobby. Pics received. A BIG help! _________________________________________________________________ *******UPDATE****** Well, thanks everyone for you assist, and a big thank you to Bobby. His pics were a real big help.... I got it all back together.... a few rotations to get things moving, then I connected the coil. A couple of coughs, and then ran well..... at 3000 rpm! Major vacuum leak! Pulled the top intake manifold off again... the fault was a cable clamp at the rear of the engine, had shifted between the mating surfaces, as I bolted them down. Only a thin piece of metal, but enough. New gaskit, and reinstall tomorrow... It will leave the shop this week, dammit. Thanks again, all.... z |
