time to share my project car
So I had my avitar, the red AMC Spirit. It was a 83 w/ the 258 inline 6, auto, had some Boyd rims, rebuilt drivetrain. It was not that fast, but man would it handle. So I had to sell her back in Nov or Dec 2002 b/c I focked up on my taxes and had to pay off the IRS. Man did that suck. It needed a repaint and a V8, but the interior was black and perfect, which a black interior is hard to find on a AMC Spirit, most are either light blue, tan, or a redish brown.
So after a while I ran across a white 83 Spirit GT w/ the same engine, it was not running and I have had it put up in my dad's shop for over a year. But here is where the project starts I finally am paid up on bills and can afford to build an engine for the car. So what are the plans .. well good ol dad has a 360 v8 from a Jeep Wagooneer sitting in his shop. I am about to pull that 6 out and will rebuild that 360. Man am I getting excited. I hope to have it on the road in April, or in late May at the latest. These little Spirits will haul some butt w/ a 360. Yea, I know it is kin to the Gremlin and Pacer, but damn it will be a fun ride. I guess you can compare it to putting a 351w in a Mustang II I have the paint scheme figured out too .. I want too paint it bittersweet orange w/ the shadow mask over the hood, tops of the fenders and wrapping around the A, B and c pillars like a 1970 AMX. I will put some pics opn the thread soon. |

Well I am going to do a relatively mild build. So I would imagine I will end up with between 300 to 325 crank hp. I think stock the motor was putting 220hp out, the motor came out of a late 70's Wagoneer, so that hp rating might not be to accurate.
It should definitely light up the rears, but I will have to be careful b/c the rear axel is not that good, I need to swap the rear out for a Model 20. |
