Writing Challenge # 34
I hope you've been enjoying your week - Here we go!
YOUR CHALLENGE: Write about an abstract concept without actually saying what that concept is. Choose one of the words from the list below, and write in the style of your choice using that word as your subject or theme--the piece doesn't have to be directly about your word, but the word should be somehow central or essential to your work. The catch is this: you can't actually use the word, or any of its synonyms or opposites, but the reader should still be able to guess what it is. Words to Choose from: hunger anger lovesickness poverty joy annoyance friendship If you would like to use a different word of your own choosing, PM me the word so I can disclose it after you've wrote and others have had a chance to guess your word. Good luck!

First some words of disagreement
The dance of discovery begins Take notice of what is said and seen Telling jokes and secret sins A picture's worth a thousand words But sometimes only one When eyes have met Through technology's lens The connection has begun Nothing is forever We hold on to our dreams In hopes that what we know is true Will not be as it seems So I take what gifts are given now And cherish all within my heart I glide in step to the melody Until the dance ends And we part

tecoyah = hunger
ngdawg = lovesickness A breath cools her down too fast, so she holds it in: changes the winter cloud into a summer breeze, then lets it go relunctantly. The air gives to her freely, even on Monday mornings. It's not going anywhere. Maybe she should move and take it with her down to the bus station, the coffee shop or maybe the park if the cops are gone. No, she put in time right here, by the subway. No way she's leaving now, when it might pay off. The subway and the morning rush. Her slot machine. Here's a blue suit coming over, picking up the pace. She pulls the lever and counts down: 3... 2... 1... No go. Two cherries and a treasure chest for her. No big prize, just dissapointment that lost its sting long ago, but she likes it now. It's familiar, a habit, a pair of old jeans worn by the pavement. Next up, college wear. Converse and jean jacket making eye contact. The vibe of liberal arts, protests and road trips. Always a good sign. She takes in another winter cloud as metal hits the ground, bouncing like little thunderclaps. Jackpot. She takes it before it fades away, like that smile she used to have.

Words cannot desribe the feeling of watching your wife give birth. Holding your son.. YOUR SON for the first time. I'm actually tearing up while writing these words.
PS I know it's a simple one and a little obvious, but it's an warm up for my posting in this part of this great site.

why won't they listen?
he cried in the night I am trying to help them make their wrongs be right Being director of a grand play is not really easy, I've heard them say But these actors are impossible! They don't know their parts They keep saying It should come from the heart He threw down the script And stormed out of the place Unaware of the decision He had made in his haste That now there were actors With nothing to act But he made up his mind He would not go back Sometimes to direct We need to let go And let the good actors Put on the show And enjoy all their efforts However large or small They are there for the love of the play, after all.... And directors are needed To guide and direct But they are also there To teach and protect It's all give and take To learn as we go And when we relax It's one hell of a show

a line of trees
on both sides shiver and shake their shoulders restlessly while I sleep unknowingly Because you are by my side And the darkness can burn With the reverse flash light flare Of what is never seen And the wind can bite And spit And rage it's just a noise Buffeting our window Its just a flailing thing That places your hand Your hair My shoulder My hand In their context After all Not much And closer to God Than anything that bites Or kills
